Dakshina Kannada Philatelic Association started as Mangalore Philatelic Club in 1975, is celebrating 25 years of existence this Millennium. The aim of the association has been to promote education among the young and old through Philately. In our endeavour we plan the following events aimed at students of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Districts.

We are organising a painting competition with a theme - "Design a Postage Stamp Depicting the Folk Games/ Art of the District", in the following categories

• Higher Primary Schools (5th to 7th Classes)
• High Schools (8th to 10th Classes)
• Pre-University

The on the spot painting competetion will be held at St. Mary's English Medium Higher Primary School, Falnir, Mangalore, for DK district  and at Udupi North Zilla Panchayat Model Higher Primary School, Badagupete, for Udupi district, on Sunday, September 10, 2000. Prize winning entries will be used on the special covers to be released by the Association during the Silver Jubilee function.

We are also organising an essay competetion on the theme - "Karnataka on Stamps" for the High School and PUC categories at the same time and venue as the painting competetion. Prize winning entries will be published in the DAKAPA Newsletter and this site under articles.
