| Alpine's World Cup Qualifying Pickem' Contest Germany 2006 |
| The entry deadline has passed. Here are all the Official Entries. Missed the deadline? I suspect that a Vogon would likely tell you, "There's no point in acting all surprised about it. All the rules have been on display here for over two of your Earth months, so you've had plenty of time to make an entry and it's far too late to start making a fuss about it now." ...................................................................................................................................... Faster than a speeding glacier, more complex than a game of tic-tac-toe, and more fun than a barrel of monkeys (particularly if your children have lost most of the monkeys)... It's... It's... Alpine's World Cup Qualifying Pickem' Contest!!! Yes the waiting is over! You are about to enter a contest in which results come at a speed rivaling that of growing grass! Now, hurry, hurry! Fill out your entry and let the real waiting begin! (In case you are wondering, my kids bought me a box of !!! for Christmas and I need to get rid of them.) How to Play: Pick the 40 teams you feel most likely to qualify for the 2006 World Cup. Then assign each team a number from 1 to 40. Do not use the same number twice. Give teams you are most confident about the higher numbers. The number you assign will be the points you receive if that team qualifies for the World Cup. For example, if you feel strongly that Germany will qualify (hint, hint) you would be well advised to assign them a high number like 40. In addition to your 40 picks, you must designate a tie breaker. Select one of your 40 teams (excluding Germany) and predict how many goals they will score during qualifying. The person with the highest score at the end of qualifying will be the winner. In the event of a tie, the tied entry which most closely predicted the total goals scored by their tie breaking team wins the tie. This team need not have qualified for the World Cup but must be one of your 40 chosen teams. The winner's prize will be the momentary admiration of a stranger who accidentally stumbles upon the results page, nods approvingly of your achievement, and moves on to what they were actually searching for in the first place. It may help to know how many teams will qualify from each confederation, the qualifying format, and qualifying groups. FIFA's World Cup site is a good source for that information. Contest Registration: Eligible contestants shall submit an entry (limit one per person) by e-mail to [email protected]. Deadline for all entries is March 29th, 2004, at 11:59 p.m. Mountain Time. Entries must be identified as "World Cup Picks" in the subject line. Entries should include your Yahoo ID or MFLS name, include your 40 numerically ranked teams grouped by continental confederation (CONCACAF, CONMEBOL, CAF, AFC, UEFA, and OFC), and a predicted goal total for your tie breaking team. I will respond to all entries with an acknowledgment e-mail. I am not responsible for any lost, mutilated, or foolish entries. At the end of the entry period, all entries will be posted on this web site for public viewing and ridicule. Confused????? (got a box of ??? too) I warned you this was more complex than tic-tac-toe! Here is a sample entry. Note that this entry has many ill-advised picks and that the number of teams chosen from each confederation is up to you. Officially, 32 teams will qualify, 3 or 4 from CONCACAF, 4 or 5 from CONMEBOL, 5 from CAF, 4 or 5 from AFC, 14 from UEFA, and 0 or 1 from OFC. |
