| The Picks! because everybody loves the international game! AWCQPC has been selected as the official acronym for the contest because it fits and because it is annoyingly long and unwieldy. Now on to what it is about... The AWCQPC is a contest where participants will predict which 32 teams will qualify for World Cup 2002. In addition to the 32 teams, you will pick a certain number of alternates for each continental confederation should your primary picks fail to qualify. Points will be awarded for correct picks, fewer points for correct alternates, and there will be bonus points for correctly picking an entire confederation. The winner of AWCQPC will be the person who accumulates the most points by the end of World Cup qualifying. (Note that this will not be until late in the year so you will want to bookmark this site or join a 2001/02 participating EPL league) In case of a tie, the winner will be the team which had the most correct of his/her primary 32 picks, if there is still a tie those involved will be declared co-winners. The winner(s) will receive a fully refurbished EGO compliments of Short Term Meaningless Success Inc. (approximate retail value $0.00043) Taxes are the sole responsibility of anyone foolish enough to pay them. The creator and sponsors of this contest are not responsible for any loss of humility stemming from misuse of the prize. Contest Registration: Eligible contestants shall submit an entry (limit one per person) by e-mail to [email protected] any time between April 5th and April 19th. Deadline for all entries is April 19th 2001, at 11:59 p.m. Mountain Time. (We are using Mountain time because, quite frankly it is neglected and I am tired of seeing TV shows advertised along with Eastern, Central and Pacific time. Where is the Mountain time listing? What do they think we are out here?) Sorry about that. Entries can be modified any time prior to the deadline, by sending another e-mail stating that you would like to make a change in your picks. I am not responsible for any lost, mutilated, or foolish entries. At the end of the entry period, all entries will be posted on this web site for public viewing and ridicule. Entries should follow the format illustrated on the official entry form and must include your Yahoo ID. Official Entry Form Point system: 3 points for each correct primary pick (32 picks) 1 point for each correct alternate pick (7 picks) Note: Teams which qualify for the World Cup will receive the appropriate amount of points regardless of the method of qualifying. For instance, if you select England to qualify via the EUFA/AFC playoff match but they qualify by winning their group, you will still get the 3 points. Likewise, if you select Scotland to qualify as one of the main 13 but they end up qualifying in the EUFA/AFC playoff, you still get the 3 points. This also applies to alternates, should an alternate qualify through a playoff you will still receive 1 point. Bonus points for correctly picking an entire confederation (must be your primary picks - alternates will not count towards continental bonuses): 3 points for CONCACAF (3 teams) 3 points for CONMEBOL/OFC (5 teams - 4 CONMEBOL plus the CONMEBOL/OFC playoff winner) 3 points for CAF (5 teams) 3 points for AFC (2 teams unless the AFC team wins the playoff against EUFA in which case you must have correctly picked all 3 AFC teams which qualified) 12 points for EUFA (13 teams unless EUFA wins the playoff against AFC in which case you must have correctly picked all 14 EUFA teams which qualified) ------------------------- Clueless on who to pick?
