| Slick da Kid's style is like no other, but, like our great producers such as the Neptunes, Dr. Dre, Swizz Beats and Timbaland, we like his style. Let me tell you how this happened. Slick was in the school's marching and concert bands. He picked up a lot of skills and tastes for certain sounds in high school that a lot of producers might pick up from listening to either lots of hip-hop or playing organ in church like the Medicine Men f/k/a No Limit's Beats by the Pound. Slick perfers horns and very precise sounds with definite shapes. He's synth and slightly ridged, but NOT stiff. You can hear instruments almost swim through his well-mapped out compositions, using strings and brass, mixed with dingy classical samples over an enormous long-ring kick drum. And he's quickly becoming the town's favorite producer. |
