To Return to My Reflections
"Keep your self-image clean and bright...
it is the window through which you see the world."
(Maxwell Maltz)
Christmas 1999

I've hung decorations and put up the tree
But, Lord, I don't know what's the matter with me!
It all seems so empty, meaningless, dumb...
When I think of the despairing lifestyles of some.

I listen but nothing is singing within
The joy of the season seems blighted by sin.
My heart wants to sing of our saviour's birth
But my thoughts seem consumed by the sorrows on earth.

I look round my house with all the glitter and glitz
But realize quickly that something's amiss.
The bright light of sunshine reveals the truth...
It doesn't take Einstein or Sherlock the Sleuth.

The windows are dirty, there's dust everywhere
I now understand my cloud of despair.
No matter the beauty we try to display
Our sin is revealed by the Light of the Day!

The Truth of this season is disputed, I know,
But Christ is the Christmas I want to show.
Neglect is the cause of my heart's present condition...
Like my home, it's adorned with empty tradition.

Christ IS my Savior, I gave Him my heart
But hurt and despair caused me to part.
I realize now His Love did not cease
He never left me, just allowed my release.

Without Him, we all will succumb to despair
He's Hope, Life and Truth...this I'll declare!
So I'll clean up my house and also my heart
And never again from Him will I part!
