The Kenhardt Lourenses
The Division of N'Rougas-Suid into Three Farms
After Oupa Stoffel's death Ouma Ella remarried with a certain Abraham Jacobus Van Wyk who was considerably younger than she was.  He was known as Oupa Abraham and those two had 2 children, namely a son with the name of his father and then a daughter Anne. In this time after the marriage they also built the farmhouse at N'Rougas -Suid but I could not find exactly when that was.  I only know that it was not built before Oupa Stoffel's death and when the Boer War broke out in 1899 the house was already finished because there is a bullet hole through the front door. I decided on a date between these two dates and 1894 on the farm house construction and would like to know who will disagree with me over that.
Oupa Koos married in Kenhardt on 11 March 1907 Huibrecht Johanna Maria Van Niekerk (Ouma Breggie), and the reception was at Putzonderwater. They lived in a tent (sinktent) between N'Rougas-Siud and the farm of the late Oom Michael van der Colff, N'Rougas-Noord.  My father was born in this tent on 7th December 1907 in the heat of summer.  He was born prematurely and was likely over a month old before my Ouma came for the first time to Tant Kit Van der Colff of Blouputs where she could weigh him.  He was then no more than 6 pounds with his nappy.  He probably fitted nicely in a shoebox.
Oom Manie and Ousus Ella remained unmarried, while Tant Annie van Wyk married Henry Faul.  Oompie Abraham was also married, and I presume that as they grew older they discussed the sub division of the farm with their mother; and the farm was then divided into more or less three portions, and thereby it happened that Oom Manie acquired the western part, which was known as N'Rougas-Suid and where the old men lived, and Oupa Koos received the eastern part which was known as De Rust, and which was known in our family as Verskep.  The Northeastern part was farmed by Oom Abraham and this was known as Fairview. How the oldfolk arranged the business I do not know, but after the survey and sub division was effected it seems that Fairview was 6,109 morgen, De Rust 6,111 morgen and the balance, namely N'Rougas-Suid was 6,115 morgen, and the three farms were approximately equally large. The farm was not transferred into the names of the sons and Ouma Ella was the owner until her death on 30 August 1922.
As I said, Oupa Koos and Ouma Breggie were living in a tent about 150 steps from the farm building, on the holding between Ouma Breggie and Ouma Ellie, apparently in the customary awkward 'Mother-in-Law/Daughter-in-Law' relationship.  I think this may have contributed to Oupa Koos and Ouma Breggie erecting improvements for them on Versep.  The house at Versep was about five miles from the farm buildings at N'Rougas-Suid, and Oom Abraham again built a small house for him on Fairview, which was about a mile from the farmhouse at Verskep.
