He married Agnes Emmanee Dryden Abt. 1850 in Kingston upon Hull, Yorkshire, England, daughter of William Dryden and Jane ?. She was born 27 November 1826 in Park Cottage, Cottingham, Yorks, England, and died 25 June 1907 in Christchurch, New Zealand. Notes for George Williamson Hall: Brother of John Hall, Prime Minister of New Zealand. Wife Agnes was sister of John Hall's wife Rose. Emigrated to New Zealand with brother Thomas after leaving the maritime life. Was a stock farmer for many years until ill-health forced him to retire to Christchurch. Lived in Papanui Road until his death. Buried in Hororata Cemetery - Obituary in Lyttleton Times 28 February 1896 - Page 5 - as follows:- "Mr George Williamson Hall, eldest brother of Sir John Hall died at his residence, Park Terrace, yesterday in his 78th year. Mr Hall was a native of Scarborough, England, and in his early life went to sea. He became a captain in the merchant Service, but left the sea and came to Canterbury in the fifties. For many years he followed pastoral pursuits in various parts of the province. He took no part in public affairs, but was a man of cultural tastes and wide reading, and of a disposition which caused him to be like and respected by thos who knew hom. Mr Hall leaves a widow and one daughter. His funeral will take place in Hororata tomorrow. A special train will leave Christchurch for Coalgate at 9.05am and conveyances will be provided at Coalgate. He died of paralysis at the residence of his brother, Sir John Hall, 25 Park Terrace, Christchurch (References: Dictionary of NZ Biography; Early South Canterbury Runs by R Pinney; Files of Lyttleton Times; Monumental Inscriptions in the Hororata C of E Cemetery.) Owned Highbank property in 1852; also Springfield Run with John & Thomas Represented Heathcote in the Provincial Council 1861-2 Death reg no 406 Shown on the Electoral Roll in 1855/6 as a 'Stock Farmer, Leaseholder, resident in Kaiapoi; in 1857 he had properties in Ashburton and in Rakaia - still as a leaseholder. By 1869 he owned freehold property in Ashburton Forks (Rural Section 1045), a 'household' on Part Rural Section 9 on Addington and Lincoln Road in Christchurch, and a freehold property in the Seadon District named 'Seadown' (Pt Section 1730 - Levels District).
