Sick of CD reviews? I sure am. I hate writing these fuckin things! So Im not gonna do it for a while. Why bother? CDs are great, good, ok, bad or god-awful. I usually only do reviews of the Great stuff, and sometimes not even that because its fuckin pointless. And I would never, ever write a bad review (refer to Truckstop rule #1 Bad music deserves zero publicity).

YeahyeahI know I keep saying Review-O-Rama or Lots of new reviews or something ridiculous like that. Coming soon! heheWhatever. But Ill tell you what I am gonna do for ya here! I will list stuff like bands, CDs & songs I feel is worthy of a mention, along with a VERY short discriptionThen you can quickly glimpse and see if something might appeal to you and check it out. This wastes a lot less of your time and mine, plus it gets rid of my gloominess concerning this stupid magazine and the worthlessness of a project which makes me no money.

The title will be listed, followed by a quick note regarding it, and in Parentheses, the groups it may appeal to most or an artist likened to it, (although technically I feel that you should try to keep an open mind an try it, even if its not your genre of preference).

And oh, by the wayThere nothing saying that the things on the list will be new items or bands.

THE TWISTIN' TARANTULAS - "El Destroyo"
Review by Daisy Milford 3/29/03

15 Tracks no pardon me 15 fuckin great tracks!  Im not kidding, not even slightly, when I say that this CD just plain rules!  Pete, being the A.D.D. fuck that he is, should be the role model of every hyperactive child across the world!  Ive known Pistol Pete for quite sometime now, and I can honestly say that this record is maybe the next best thing to actually hanging out with him in person.  Its amazingly obvious that he put his heart and soul into this cd.  I dare anyone to listen to this cd and not get the same feeling.  I mean, if youre listening to Soul Survivor or The Keys to the Kingdom and you arent moved, then you might quite possibly be made of stone. Then there are tracks like Im the Boy,  You Must Be Sniffin Glue and El Destroyo that make me shake my head and go good god, no wonder he gets along so well with my 7 year old cousin. Like I said though, this IS Pete. So summed up you buy the cd and you get the following: great punk, great rockabilly, great country, great soul and (as many of you Im sure were hoping for) great metal!!!!  Their first cd Attack of was a really hard cd to follow up, and I can honestly say that those who loved Attack of are going to LOVE this album. This is who the Tarantulas are this is what theyre made of.  I VERY strongly recommend picking this one up ASAP!!

DROPGUN - "Shittin' & Gittin' "
Review by Tommy Timebomb

Like a swift, hard crack against your temple from a cop's billy club, the Drop Gun debut album," Shittin & Gettin" will rattle your skull.  These Akron, Ohio punks are a refereshing change of pace from all the "supposed" Garage Rock & Glam Punk that's so popular with the kiddie hipsters nowadays. They sound as if you put the Misfits, Dead Boys & Drop Kick Murphy's into a blender and hit puree.

Two real standouts on this outting are "Little Whore and The Crew". These are songs that should have you smashing beer botles and heads together in equal glee. The only real complaint I have is with the fuzzy sound quality on this album, which is a small bitch considering this C.D.'S entertainment value
.

The Bad Luck Charms
"Longest Road Home - EP"

Daisy Milford

Some of you who know me, may be aware of my uber low tolerance for bullshit and I've decided that if I don't like something I just won't waste my time reviewing it. The Bad Luck Charms, in my opinion, do not deserve a short little review on my website - they deserve  a full page review, interviews and a shrine here. I will make a little prediction here,  I believe that once these guys get the ball rolling, and start doing more shows all over the place and gettin a bit better known, this cd I now hold close to my heart, will be in the cd collection of at least half of you who read this. I booked these guys to play a show here last month, and I am so happy I did. The live preformance is outstanding as well (The Bad Luck Charms are unbelievably charismatic). That Ken guy who sings is a real gem. Fabulous voice & a fabulous preformer as well. Now for the hard part what kind of music is this.....uhh...well, I guess if your a punk you'll like it and if you like rockabilly you'll like it, but it's not psychobilly or anything like that. Maybe it's just one of the best rock n' roll cds ever. I really can't say for sure. I highly reccommend this cd to everyone. It actually hasn't been really released in full form yet - good luck gettin it at this date. You're best bet is to just wait and try to contact these guys to come to your town and play & bring some of these unreleased copies to sell there. The most memorable track on the cd for me was "When The Night Falls" - it's a very 50's sounding ballad. It's lonely, sexy and rockin at the same time. Anyhow - get a hold of these guys now (there's a link to them from this webite)!!!!

Electric Frankenstein
"How to Make a Monster"

Tommy Timebomb

For years I've seen Electric Frankenstein albums around, and as curious as I was about them, I never picked any up. Well it turns out I was missing out on a kick ass band. E.F. plays fast, boot to the scrotum, sleazy ass metal that dares you not to throw up the horns. I'm not even going to bother listing my favorite songs, just pick this album up, play it loud, and rest easy in the fact that your probaly going to hell for doing so. Bonus points for a cool Coop cover, and photo's of a super hot Bride of Frankenstein model. Super extra bonus points for " Phatty Boom Batty", a song about Silent Bob and Jay.

The Queers
"Beyond The Valley of the Assfuckers"

Daisy Milford

Buy this album!Buy this album!Buy this album! I won't bore you with obscure factoids about this album or ramble on in music geek lingo (if you care about that stuff you shouldn't be listening to this cd anyhow). Hell, I'm not even gonna point out my favorite tracks, I enjoyed all of them. I like all the curse words on the album, actually there's a song dedicated to the curse word cunt on here. Overall it's a mean spirited album and for some reason it puts me in a better mood than lets say... my Eddie Cochran albums do. It's the album that I would want to hear played at everyshow I go to in between the bands sets, because it says everything (almost) I always want to say to people there but won't cuz I don't wanna talk to them in the first place. Ok, I'm not writing any more about this one, just know I really liked it. Note to self***Keep 5 year old cousin out of room when reviewing cds with the word Assfuckers in the title.*** This is the best album in the world for playing way loud in a girls dorm.

Squirtgun
(selftitled)

Daisy Milford

I don't really think that punk (poppy-punk or other wise) is really the way to describe this cd, but this is a really great cd. These guys really tear through it with catchy melodies and interesting songs. I'm still trying to understand this cd so please bear with me on this review. The singer for this group (Matt Hart) has such distinct vocal style, it definitely stands out. Like when I hear them on the radio being played in the middle of a set of songs, I know who it is immediately. My favorite track on the album is "Headache All Day", partially drawing on personal experience, but it's like Mass (the bass player) even said - they were really trying to convey the feeling of a coffee buzz (which they did successfully). I think it's best said that this is just an enjoyable cd & leave it at that, otherwise I'll over analyze it and ruin it.

THE ULTIMATICS
"Dolls and Skulls"

Daisy Milford

Anyone who frequents this website probably already knows that I as well as many others, thinks The Ultimatics are the shit. Honestly, I was terrified that "Dolls and Skulls" wouldn't live up to the standards for great punk rock set by "The Vicious & The Glamorous" . But damned if they didn't pull another fuckin rad album outta their asses! In the same tradition also spliting up their fine variety of different styles, but it ALL -timaticaly rockin!  I hope Pittsburgh appreciates em while they got em' cuz this is a band that I fully anticipate an A.F.I.  type rise in national popularity. I wish I could find somethin bad to say about these guys, no dice. Please trust me and add this one as well as The Vicious & The Glamorous to your collection.

THE BAD CHECKS
"High Dollar"

Daisy Milford

Damn good band, that's what these Bad Check boys are.  Let me give you the setting.....

Ok, your in a convenience store... let's say somewhere down south, the hottest fuckin chick in the world walks in with her boyfriend (who is clad in a leather jacket - complete with Dead Boys, Misfits and Other punk rock pins lining the lapels; torn jeans and a Motorhead shirt).  She jumps over the counter and with a gun pointed at his head demands money from the cashier.  While she stuffs the money into her thong underwear, her boyfriend heads straight for you, yanks your head backwards and slits your throat before you even scream. If you were still alive, you would hear this tape playing in the car as they fucked before driving off to the HANK III show.

What a great fuckin band, they kinda give me the willies though.

THE HEPTANES
"PHANTOM CADILLAC"

DAISY MILFORD

Before I start this review, let me just say to all that promote shows-BOOK THIS BAND!!!! This cd doesn't only kick much fuckin' ass, their live show does too. Here, I'll help ya a little CLICK HERE for their website, with contact info. I  saw them play in two different states last weekend, not once lacking in any way, except for when they didn't get to play a full set on Saturday night, that bit.
Ok, now for the cd review...  I'd like to put this on my  "If you don't like this cd, You must not have good taste" list. I think that it has an overall feel of a mix between Eddie Cochran, Bruce Springsteen & The Sex Pistols. Not Seperately - all at once. Yes, it is a rockabilly/psychobilly  thing, but they're not all like "Hey everybody, we're gonna shove this rockabilly  thing down you're throat til' ya puke" they're more like, "Hey everybody, we're gonna rock you're asses off and prove that you can play this music with a helluva lot of personality and originality." Interesting subject matter as well. Let's see... Aliens, Devils, The Army and something Kevin likes to refer to his baby as being - Orgasomatic (which is followed by the adjectives Psychomatic & Drunkamatic - good stuff!) I am still trying to understand how these guys can be sooo tight and they've only been around for about a year. Amazing.  Anyhow, this is gonna be a tuff one to beat. And it gets better and better every time I listen to it.
WARNING: Songs are very catchy - will cause impulsive singing and possibly liver damage.

DIZZY ELMER
"THIS BAD DOG"

TOMMY TIMEBOMB

Every now and then, it seems that the music you love gets stuck in a rut. The new albums that you are hearing are passable, but in reality, nothing special.  It's during these dull times that you begin to wonder if you'll ever come across a new album that really captures what you loved about a particular type of music. ( In this case rockabilly) Dizzy Elmer is that "savior" album you've been waiting for, it grabs you by the collar of your shirt, while yelling ," Is this what you've been waiting for jagoff? Huh? While sit back and enjoy pal."
Dizzy Elmer is Jethro Grady on Guitar and vocals, Spud Lee Murphy on bass, and Skeeter "Boy" Joplin on the drums. They play an authentic - style of rockabilly, that manages  at the same time to sound very fresh.  (o often the two words authentic and retro, may as well be substituted with the words  stale and unoriginal) Dizzy Elmer scores a hat trick by being able to skillfully play rockers, slow songs and a variety of covers. What really separates this band from the rest of the retro pack is lead singer Jethro's deep, haunting voice, that would sound natural in a goth or psychobilly band, but is very rare in modern rockabilly.  Jethro's take on "16 Tons", showcases his ability to turn an already dark song, into a true piece of hollow and sinister evil.  Every song on this album is a keeper,  no padding at all..  This c.d. will shut you up if you've been complaining nothing good has  come out lately. I'm warning you, buy it, cause if you don't, but you keep complaining, I'll come to your house, and sew your goddamn mouth shut.

STIGMATA
"DO UNTO OTHERS"

ANDY RIDINGS

The front man of this band, Riley, is able to overwhelm the listeners of this CD with his meaningful, if not raw lyrics. Their music is a cross between hardcore and punk, while at the same time reminiscent of the early days of angst rock...ahh, those were the days. If you are tired of listening to those fucking panty wastes that claim they are hardcore and want to listen to some REAL HARDCORE, pick up this album.  So get off yer lazy ass, go to your nearest music store and quit whining about how there is no good hardcore music coming out cuz STIGAMTA's album DO UNTO OTHERS will definitely give you the raw intensity you crave in music.
