WHEN BILLY? WHEN? Dom had never even raised his voice to Billy before, never mind stood screaming at him across his living room. BILLY I CANT DO IT! I WONT, NOT ANYMORE.
Billy stood there helpless. Dommie
NO!!!! DO NOT CALL ME THAT!! DO NOT TRY AND WIN ME ROUND. IT WONT WORK THIS TIME. Dom breathed out deeply. He wasnt used to yelling. He had no reason for it before. But he was learning it was hard to do while trying to keep your breathing regular.
Billy stepped towards him and reached for him but Dom pulled away. Dont. Dom was also learning that screaming made him erratic and bloody well act like his mother. Men werent supposed to cry. It was a well known fact. Ha! 21st century people!!!!! He didnt care what people thought. He cried. Although hed had no reason to cry over Billy before. Not in all the years he had known him.
Dom please, just listen. We need to talk about it. Billy was pleading but Dom was having none of it.
Billy weve had this conversation too many times. He wasnt shouting anymore. Well it was hard to shout and cry at the same time. It screwed with the breathing even more. And there was no way he could have stopped his tears streaming down his cheeks.
Billy you always say the same thing and I always believe you. Then we go back to the way it was until it comes up again and the whole thing starts all over. Dom found tears were worse than shouting; these made him choke and stumble over his words. I cant do it Bills. I cant.
Billy was crying too and Dom hated the fact that he had made him do it.
So what are you saying Dom? Billy wiped the tears from his own cheeks but it made no difference. New ones were flowing to replace them.
This is it. I cant keep pretending. Its over. I have to go.
No! You cant. You cant leave me. Billy grabbed him. Dom please, dont. Ill well sort it. Ill tell them. Ill tell everyone!
Dom shook his head. Its too late. He cupped Billys face with his shaking hands. He leaned and kissed him, tears mixing. Sorry Bills. I do love you.
So dont do this.
Dom kissed him again but pulled back before he lost himself in Billys kisses.
Bye Bills.
He broke away from Billys grasp and walked away. He shut the front door quietly and broke down.

A week later he was heading out of his house in LA. He hadnt forgotten Glasgow; in fact what happened was replaying itself over and over in his head. But he had to do it. He couldnt have gone on like that. Although now he was starting to believe pretense was better than living without Billy.
He crossed the street to the local newsagents. He pushed open the door and was hit by cool air. He never remembered about Air-con, it always sent a jolt to his system. Maybe hed never adjust. Well it was odd. He was used to warm air indoors, cold outside. But that was the difference between the US and England.
He sighed and headed for the news rack. Dom always wanted to know what was going on in the world. Without even reading the front he picked up his usual, paid at the counter, said his goodbyes and was back outside.
He folded his paper and headed back towards his house. He was just shutting the door when his phone rang. He dropped the paper on a chair and answered the phone.
Hello?
Dom, its Lij. Have you read the papers today?
No. Just got mine. Why?
Just read them. Let me know what happens. Bye.
Before Dom had a chance to reply Elijah was gone. Dom frowned. What the hell was that about? He hung up the receiver and headed back to where he dropped his paper. He unfolded it and stared at the headline Lord of the Rings Stars Gay Confession.
Dom didnt even stop to read the article. Folding the paper again and gripping it tightly in his hand he ran to his room. He grabbed his mobile and one other thing before he ran out of his house locking the door behind him.

It was only when Dom was sitting on a plane did he open the paper again. The only thing he had with him apart from his wallet, mobile and passport.
He looked at the front page. How hadnt he seen the picture when he entered the shop? Those sad green eyes staring out, burning right into Doms blue ones.
He began to read the article.
Glasgow born Billy Boyd has finally talked of his love for hobbit co-star. Boyd 35 (Pippin) has finally taken a giant leap in the world of showbiz by exclusively revealing that himself and Dominic Monaghan 27 (who plays Merry in the blockbusting trilogy) have been romantically involved for over four years. He says It happened a few months into filming. I fell in love. Hes the most fantastic person ever.
Now although their sexuality may not come as a surprise for some fans (gay rumours were rife on the internet which the cast never denied nor confirmed) his partner may. Many people stipulated that Monaghan was actually involved with superstar Elijah Wood (Frodo Baggins if you please.)
That was kind to throw people off the sent. For a while Dom and I werent ready to reveal our relationship to the world. He and Lij kind of played up in public so the truth was concealed. Boyd explains
So why here, why now? Why is the world finally hearing the truth? Boyd after one shock confession follows with another.
Dom broke it off. It seems Monaghan wanted to reveal all to the world over two years ago but Boyd still had doubts. I hated denying him but I wasnt ready. But it was never fair on him.
Over the course of their time together, Monaghan pleaded with Boyd to announce their love to the world but Boyd refused. This resulting in Monaghan ending the relationship last week, fearing Boyds true feelings. Well Boyd is here today telling all and clearing any doubt.
Dom, Im sorry. I get it now, I understand. And I love you. Boyd doesnt expect reconciliation but told us that he had to make it right.
A bizarre Romeo and Juliet story seems to be in play but will Monaghan change his mind after learning of Boyds confession? Watch this space.
Dom folded the paper into his lap. Well Billy certainly didnt do things by half.
When Dom stepped off the plane he was greeted by a cold wind. Yes that felt right. Warm plane, cold outside.
As soon as he was in a taxi he turned his phone on and rang Billy. After eight rings he heard a click. Hello. This is Billy Boyd. Dom grinned when he heard the Scottish drawl. Sorry I cant get to the phone right now but if youd like to leave your name and number and Ill get back to you ASAP. There was a pause before Billy started speaking again. Or try my mobile; you may catch me on that. Bye.
God Billy was so conventional. He really needed a jazzier message *beep* Hey Bills. Its Dom. Just ringing to say I saw the paper. Dom paused. I saw it. He smiled before hanging up. Oh yes, that gave nothing away. He was just about to slide his phone in his pocket when it rang.
Hello.
Hey Doms. Youve seen it right?
Yes Sean. I have.
Hes sorry you know. He loves you.
I know Sean. But hes only done it because I forced him into it.
Are you kidding? You finishing it gave him a get out clause. He no longer had anything to deny. He had no reason to do it. He did it for you. To show you what you mean to him. There was nothing in it for him.
Youre right.
So are you going to call him?
No.
Dom, you love him. You cant let it end here. Listen, are you at home? Ill come round and well talk.
Im out Sean.
Well Ill meet ya. Where are you?
In a taxi.
Where?
Glasgow.
There was a pause in conversation and Dom knew Sean was smiling. Hell he was smiling too.
Say hi from me.
I will do Sean. And thanks.
For what?
Helping.
Dom, I did nothing. You were already there.
But I might not have been and you ringing may have convinced me.
Sean gave out a laugh. Maybe.
No maybes about it. Ill let you know what happens.
You better.
I will. Love to Christine and the kids.
Will do. Bye.
Bye Sean
Dom hung up and shoved the phone into his pocket smiling.

Dom stood outside Billys front door. This was not the plan. Granted he didnt have a plan. He had gotten on a plane without clothes or anything. Yep, definitely no plan there. But still, this was not part of the non plan. Billy was supposed to be in the bloody house. He sunk to the floor and curled up on the doorstep. Hed wait.
30 minutes later it started to gently rain. Dom could have went to a pub or caf, shelter till it stopped, he didnt. He waited. Still no Billy.
45 minutes later and the rain was really heavy. But it reminded Dom that he was in Glasgow, home of Billy so he didnt really care. He only wished hed thought a little. Hed still be sitting on the doorstep in the rain, but he would definitely of remembered to bring a coat. He shivered and pulled his knees closer.
One hour and 14 minutes later Dom was beyond wet. He was freezing, huddled shuddering finding no relief from the doorframe. If only the rain would stop. He wanted to get up and go and get a hot drink and come back. But, just as he would think about moving an image of Billy returning to an empty house stopped him. Never again would Billy have to come home and feel alone.
It was one hour and 17 minutes when Billys car pulled up but Dom didnt even notice. His legs were pulled up to his chest his arms folded on top. His head rested on his arms, his eyes closed, his wet hair plastered to his forehead.
Billy climbed out of his car, shut and locked the door and set the alarm. It was only when he walked round to the front of the house that he noticed Dom.
He ran up the path and crouched in front of him. He gently ran his fingers thru Doms wet hair.
Dom.
He ran his left hand up Doms right arm and Dom started to stir. He lifted his head from his arms and looked into Billys piercing green eyes.
Billy?
Yeah Dom, its me.
Bills. Been waiting. Been waiting for you.
For how long?
Forever.
Billy smiled. Me too Dommie.
Dom smiled back. He pulled a soaking crinkled paper from his knees. I read it Billy. I read it.
Billy gave out a little chuckle. And what did you think?
Certainly a surprise.
Yeah. I thought it was about time.
What does your ex think?
To be honest Im not sure.
So youre not expecting a reconciliation with him then?
Not really. I didnt do it for that. I did it because he was right all along. Everything he said. He was right.
What would you say if he told you that it didnt matter anyway? That it was all insignificant and that all that mattered was that he loved you.
Then Id say I was the luckiest guy in the world.
Dom shook his head. Thats me.
Billy smiled. Youre wet.
Youre getting pretty wet too.
Billy nodded. I guess I am. Billy held his hands out and Dom took them. Billy stood up bringing Dom with him. They stood in the rain looking at each other.
So, you think theres defiantly no chance of reconciling? Dom looked towards the paper on the step.
Billy followed his gaze. Dont know if hell forgive me.
Hed be an idiot not to.
Billy shook his head. I was the idiot.
Maybe youre both idiots. Dom grinned and Billy gave out a chuckle. Maybe.
They stood looking at each other again. Dom groaned Oh fuck it. He grabbed Billy and pressed their lips together, passion exploding. They separated only to breathe.
Im sorry. I am Dom really.
Dom stroked Billys face gently. Doesnt matter Bill. None of it matters. I love you and thats all I care about. I cant live without you.
Oh Dommie. Billy kissed him again.
I love it when you call me that Bills. Only you. Dom pulled him closer. Billy whispered in his ear. You are mine! Dom shivered and it wasnt from the cold.
Billy? Bills pulled back to look at Dom. Yeah Dom?
Howe about we go take a hot shower?
Billys eyebrows rose. We?
Dom nodded smiling. Billy smiled back before kissing him again.
That Dommie and Dom shivered again sounds like the greatest thing ever. Billy unlocked the front door and taking Dom by the hand, led him inside.
A minute later it opened and Dom came out. He looked down, found what he was looking for and bent and picked it up. He stood staring at the blurry image on the front of his newspaper.
Dommie! Billys voice filtered from inside. Dom turned to look where the voice came from and smiled. Clutching the paper tightly, he turned and went back inside closing the door behind him. |
