During the summer of 1999, I had the opportunity to do an interview with the princess of pop music, Christina Aguilera.  Here is the interview. Please do not copy it or take this from my page without my permission. Thank you.

My Interview With Christina Aguilera
By Stephanie Flach
July 1999
Christina: Hi! Here are the interview questions! Sorry it took so long! Thank you so much for your interest in wanting to do an interview, and for your support. It really means a lot to me!
S=Other than your album, do you have any other projects coming up soon that we should look out for?
C=Other projects? Yes, there are several things in the works, but I can’t let the cat out of the bag yet.
S=It has always been a dream of mine to meet and talk to one of the former MMC ‘teers.  What is one of your dreams?
C=What is one of my dreams? Well, I have many, but one is to visit my father’s birthplace-- Ecuador, South America.
S=While on MMC, you had a tutor for your education right?  After MMC, did you go back to your regular high school? Are you a senior this year?
C=Yes, during MMC we were all in a “school” on the set. After MMC, I was back in public school for one year, then from eighth grade on I was homeschooled because I was travelling a lot and that way I could take my work with me. Yes, I’m a senior this year. Yea!!!
S=Who are your musical inspirations?  Who would you like to work with?  Would you ever do a duet with Britney Spears? (just an idea!)
C=My musical inspirations? Julie Andrews from the very beginning(starting around age 4), and as I grew older definitely Whitney Houston. My love of blues from a young age has led me to such great singers as Etta James and Billy Holiday. As far as the males go, I love the style and techniques of Brian McKnight.

You asked who in the business I’d like to work with. I would be honored to collaborate on a project with Madonna.  I admire her for her amazing artistry as an entertainer.

Would I ever do a duet with Britney Spears? Seeing as Britney’s a good friend of mine, I don’t see why not.  We’ll have to see what the future holds.

S=Do you keep in touch with anyone from MMC?
C= As for keeping in touch with anyone from MMC, we do run into each other at different places occasionally, and get to hang out a little, but all of our schedules are so crazy that it pretty much makes it impossible to keep in touch on a more consistent basis.
S=Being a professional singer, you must travel a lot. Who travels with you? Where is your favorite place you have traveled to so far?
C=Yes, I do travel extensively.  My favorite place so far? Oh, I had an amazing time when I was 16 and traveled to Romania to participate in the Golden Stag Festival. I went to the part of Transylvania and visited Dracula’s castle. It was really cool. But I also spent time in Japan recording with Keizo Nakanishi, and it is the most amazing country! I just came back from England and loved it…..I just can’t choose! Every place that I go seems to have really amazing things to do and see.

S=What has been the hardest thing about making your debut CD?  What has been the most fun and/or most rewarding?
C=You ask what has been the hardest thing about making my debut CD. Well, I’ve learned a lot during the making of my album and ended up growing a lot from the experience.  It was hard trying to meet halfway on certain things at times, and being on my own for such a time grew tough too, but any and everything was worth the end result.
S=What kind of promotional stuff does your management company have planned for you?  Will you be coming to malls?  Having autograph signings? Any details on where you will be?
C=My management team is planning a lot of different shows, appearances, etc. but I really don’t know the exact details  yet. They will be posted as they are scheduled and confirmed, though.
S=Where are you currently living?
C=Where am I living?  Well, I had an apartment in New York, but am currently travelling so much it’s hard to say that I actually “live” in any one place!
S=Have you ever been to an *N Sync concert to see your former fellow ‘teers Justin and JC?
C=Oh yes, I’ve definitely been to an ‘N Sync concert. A few, actually. When we find ourselves in the same places sometimes, we can see each other’s shows. They’re great, aren’t they?
S=Is there anything from MMC that you regret?
C=Is there anything that I regret from MMC? Well, being that I was 12 & 13 at the time, we all probably said or did some stupid, immature things at some point, but it’s cool. We were all younger then, and we remain friends.
S=Do you think MMC was a positive experience that will help your career?
C=MMC was definitely a positive experience for me.  I grew from it as a person and so from the memory, I’ve gained—I’m sure my career will benefit somehow.
S=What kind of songs are going to be on your upcoming album?
C=What kind of songs are on my upcoming album? It’s a pop/R&B album with blues and gospel inflections. It ranges from catchy mid to uptempos to heartfelt ballads.
S=I have only heard wonderful things about your first single, “Genie in a Bottle”.  I think it’s an awesome song.  Is there anything that you would like to say about this song or it’s meaning or lyrics?
C=Anything I’d like to say about Genie, it’s meaning, lyrics…? The song is about females wanting to be treated the “right way” before just giving their love away to anyone.

S=What advice do you have for people wanting to become singers?
C=The advice I’d give someone wanting to become a singer is to perform everywhere you possibly can. It gives you exposure plus helps you perfect your skills. Also, you never know who’s in the audience!  Also, never give up! It takes real focus and you can’t get discouraged by the times when you aren’t chosen after an audition, or by the mean people who just say things to be cruel. Persistence is the key to succeeding! Last but not least, get good books from your local bookstore that show you step by step how to break into
the business. There are books with great information on what to do, what to avoid, and much more. The better prepared you are when your chance pops up, the better chance you have of making it!
S=Do you have an email address that fans can write to you at?
C=My email is [email protected]. I’d like to ask anyone who writes, however, to please be patient. I will answer, but sometimes it takes me so long to reply due to the fact that I have very little free time to answer in, so my mail can (and does) get backlogged. But keep the letters coming, because I really love hearing from everyone!
S=Do you still play the recorder, guitar, flute?
C=As for playing the recorder, etc., I’ve only taken lessons for various instruments, but never became an expert. I play around and try to create melodies, but I’m determined to become a great pianist one day.
S=Do you speak fluent Spanish?
C=Spanish? I’m not fluent. I understand more than I speak, but I’m learning (I should say, “re-learning” as I knew it as a small child, but have forgotten). It’s very important to me that I do become as fluent as possible.
S=Memorable moment from MMC? Fave song?
C=My favorite MMC memory? I really enjoyed singing live one show to the song “Think”—it was my favorite number. One “not- so- favorite” memory was when I had a pie shoved in my face for a skit!

S=What kind of style of clothes do you wear?
C=What kind of style clothes do I wear? I wear a lot of tummy-bearing tops. I like to wear long skirts with slits, shoes with big soles or heels, and I love mixing feminine with tomboy.
S=Do you remember any Japanese from when you were there when you were younger?
C=Well, I remember I used to sing Christmas carols in Japanese as a three year old there, but I don’t remember those words. But I remember the word “kawaii”, which means pretty, or cute; “sayonara”, goodbye and “konichiwa” for Hello.
C=My message to fans:

I, of course, wanna thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for your support and love. You inspire me.

Well, thanks again, so much. I wish you all the best.

Love,
Christina
