PREVOST

So it was early afternoon on June 18th, 2004 ... and the madness began.  "Oh no, our water turned into bleach!  Who has the snacks? I can't find my sunscreen!  Where did that 30-knot wind come from?"  And the ultimate question:  How many adventurers does it take to fit a 20-litre drum to the back deck of a kayak?

Answer:  Just Diana, armed with 3 heavy-duty garbage bags and a lotta bungee.  You go, girl!
All flexed out and ready to go! (Please note: this was taken before the squall hit)
We started off on Friday from Ganges Harbour on Saltspring Island.  After a truly insane morning organizing, waterproofing, packing, and getting everyone in one spot, we hopped into our rented boats and headed off on our expedition.

Forty seconds after we get on the water, a southeasterly starts up, blowing against us.  We grin and press on - but it gets stronger, and within only a couple of minutes it's impossible to paddle against.  The ocean ahead of us is a sea of confused whitecaps and wind paths whistling across the water.  "RAFT UP!"

We head back into shore, and grab the VHF, which tells us nothing about the squall that just hit us - a low pressure system moved in fast and without warning.  We laugh, relieved to be safe on shore, and decide to wait it out.  Pulling out our drums and some tortilla chips, we have ourselves a sweet little interlude on the beach - and an hour later, there's no sign of the front that blew us off the water.  We paddle on to Prevost and enjoy the rest of our trip.

Two nights of camping and a circumnavigation later, we returned to Saltspring happy, tanned, and satisfied.  What a fantastic trip!

Sam demonstrates the most fun way to eat Cheerios: spill them all down your pants!  Hurray!
My personal fave.  Alex wasn't just putting on a show there, she was walking around camp with her finger up her nose practically the whole time ...
Mike & Wendy, not part of our group but cool enough to make the page.
Max & me, outside IE
Arbutus, Madronae - whatever, it's beautiful...
A serene circumnavigation
"I found the TP!"
Together in James Bay
And before you know it, it's Sunday!  Everyone dashes off to the ferry, and I'm left with the cleaning :)
Can you see the hawk?  'cause really, I can't.
