| Island Escapades Marine Camp 25-30th July, 2004 |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| This camp was one of my favorites - everything seemed to flow really smoothly, and everyone got along and had a ton of fun. Having a relatively small group of only 11 people allowed us to really get to know each other and have some extra free time. But between discovering sun stars, scrambling to find a non-full campsite, snorkelling, learning Polish, looking for Jayme, late-night storytelling, and epic seaweed fights, we always had plenty to do! After spending two night on Saltspring to hone our kayaking skills, we headed out to paddle around Prevost Island. Finding both James Bay and Hawkins unsuitable, we pressed on to the Red Islets, where we slept on the small beach with the high tide at our toes. Stopping for lunch at Ruckle Park the next day, we found seaweed as thick as glue and two feet deep all around us. Ada, timid to get out of her boat and walk through it, found herself victim to Aaron's well-aimed gob of sea lettuce! The war was on, and in no time we were wrestling on the beach amid nine seaweed-covered kayaks. The next two nights were spent on Portland Island cleaning seaweed out of our ears and teeth. |
