| (12/19) Canucks Lose, Canadian Coach Cries Like a Canadian Baby CHICAGO_ It was coach Sam Hong's first ever hockey game -- the young Canadian who grew up breathing and eating the Vancouver Canucks and the sport of ice hockey attended his first game Tuesday night at the United Center only to come back a broken and troubled man. Dan Cloutier, a member of team Sam, played well but fell victim to a horrible call in the game's dying seconds as a Blackhawk forward Ken Calder kicked the puck in (that's illegal) to give Chicago the 3-2 win. "I felt like crying," coach Hong said after the game, still dressed in Canucks paraphenalia. "We were robbed and it's times like this when I go up to Dan and just comfort him in any way I can..." Coach Hong refused to elaborate. Meanwhile, Hong had to deal with drunken Chicago fans throughout the entire night. Several comments: "You Canadians think you're so cool," one fan screamed. "Well you can take your free health care and free education and stick it where the sun don't shine. Yeah that's right... I watched 'Bowling for Columbine!'" "People from Vancouver are gay!" another not-so-eloquent fan bellowed. Sadly, there is truth to that comment. According to the latest demographics, Vancouver has the second largest gay-straight ratio in North America. I think we all know who comes first in that department. |
