| (8/1) Co-Editor drafted by Canucks |
| VANCOUVER, BC (AP)_ Daily 1835 co-editor Sam Hong has been drafted by the NHL's Vancouver Canucks in Thursday's Rule 5 draft. Hong was drafted despite not being able to iceskate or meeting minimum "Canadian pride" requirements. The 5'8", 160 pound forward attends Northwestern University, which does not even have a varsity hockey team. His only hockey experience comes from playing outdoor roller hockey by himself in fron tof his dormitory -- that and giving hockey lessons to Aubrey Refuerzo, Nick Collins and Joyce Lee. "It's a great honor to put on a shirt, tie, my jersey and stage this ridiculous picture just so I can make up a story on it to post on my website," Hong said from his summer residence in Irvine, CA. "Hopefully, soemone in the Canucks organization will see this picture and article and really draft me." Hong is currently working out the legal matters of his eligibility, considering that he is a citizen of three different countries and can't make up his mind about where he is, where his hometown is, or even where he was born. "I'm happy for him," co-editor Matt Cozza said. "But I'm dismayed that he took three different pictures of himself in a Canucks jersey and the one you see on the left is the best one." Canucks training camp starts in August. |
