| EVANSTON, Ill. (AP)__ Fighting swirling winds and sub-50 degree temperatures, No. 1 Team Victory came from behind to defeat their interchapter rivals IntraVenous DeMilo, 14-8, Saturday afternoon at the SPAC fields. Team Victory had defensive troubles in the first two innings, yielding seven runs on three critical errors. Team Victory was down 7-2 heading into the bottom of the second. But the No. 1-ranked team in IMs buckled down and only allowed one run for the remaining five innings, committing only one more error the rest of the way. The offense also woke up, outscoring IVdM 12-1 the rest of the way to secure a win that means much more for pride than anything else. Starting left fielder Jimmy Cheon was unable to play due to a shoulder injury, and Kellie Mitchell was also unable to play. Reserve Stan Wong stepped in for the injured Cheon, who served as a very nice umpire. "The best part of the game was watching Sam Hong get hit in the nuts on a comeback grounder," said Team Victory groupie Charlie Guo. "He jumped right into it. It was perfect." Krissy Lee's hard hit ground ball hit Hong square in the family jewels. The most peculiar part was why Hong decided to jump right into it instead of stepping out of the way. He was on the ground for about 10 minutes. Senior shortstop Joe Chang and senior outfielder Sam Hong each homered for Team Victory to lead the way for an offense that exploded in the middle innings. Girls Dena Caralis, Sarah Yu, Krissy Lee, Tiffany Fong and Christine Lee all contributed on both sides of the ball. Team Victory now looks to close out its regular season with a win against unranked Slivka tomorrow at 5 PM at Long Field. |
