LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Sherman should drop out (1/30)
Sherman is using illegal techniques for campaigning as he is
associating his name with "hot" and "tasty" substances. Drawing such
correlations was strictly forbidden under the great campaign reform of 1999
overseen by Ronald McDonald. Sherman should therefore withdraw from the race,
shamefully.

Team Cozza should include me (2/2)
I'm extremely sad and disappointed that Team Cozza coach Matt
Cozza didn't contact me to be a part of his team.  I'm not gonna lie to you, I'm probably more evil than Krang will ever be.  And besides that, I fucken caught that slutbag ho Carmen Sandi-fucken-ego.  What does a guy have to do around here to get some attention?

John David Gample

p.s.  While I do want to be a part of Team Cozza, I hope Team Sam coach Sam Hong never contacts me.  That team is gay beyond beief;  I'll never be a part of it.
I want to make out with the co-editor (1/31)
Wanna make out?

Adam Robert Sedrowski
I don't know what this guy is saying (2/17)
Randomness is so bliss and beautiful. A great philosopher by the name of Socrates Johnson once said that our innate ideas are as random as
certainty can be to the world of ignorance. Just ponder a moment and try to figure why a great master of science was trying to solve the riddle of mass. Goes a little like this, "What mass of true matter larger then the earth can orbit backwards?" My God such great defeat.

Mike Bertolini
Don't make fun of Ariel (2/28)
Sam, a.k.a. some random guy,

Better stop making fun of my friend AND HER NAME!!!!!  Shut up snappy :)

I am stupid
I am a gay mermaid (2/26)
Dear Sam: How dare you publish on a little-viewed Web site our private,
intimate conversations?  I don't broadcast your affinity for Civil War memorabilia or your lack of a date for the new Civil War movie all over the place!  Also, I don't even live in your gay dorm that breeds homosexuality, so why am I featured in your main story?  Expect a call from my lawyers- I'm suing you for libel.

Ariel Alexovich

P.S. You can be sure that Natalie Will and Kristin Ambrose hear from me about your blatant disrespect of females. The three of us are going
to kick your ass.
Homosexuality OK, but I want babies (3/5)
I have noticed a blatant reference towards same sex relationships, in this very liberal newspaper.  I don't condemn this type of
behavior, but I much rather favor semen injecting themselves in a nice pair of juggies.  We have to multiply, and it all starts with getting the message out.

I believe that has to do with Mr. Editor Cozza and Mr/Mrs. Editor Sam (I am unsure if this name stands for Samantha).  So embrace the hands of soiled lonely men, girls, and embrace the juggies of streched marked ladies, men. Now is the time for a second baby boom to occur, it has been about 50 years since the last one.

(3/11) Stop being sappy and lazy and start writing more articles
I have noticed you guys have become lazy asses and haven't wrote a article in awhile.  You keep doing this sappy shit, and profile crap. I dont want to know the sappy shit that makes you get all excited.  I think this
newspaper has turned into the sensitive type of material that should be in a AARP magazine for old ladies.  Just write a damn article on something relevant.

Latschy Wolfman

P.S. I think matt is hiding his gayness, by same telling everybody he is gay.
(2/3/2004) Wong's campaign pitch is sexist and wrong
I am absolutely appalled by the statement, "there will be a beautiful girl for every guy and a nice pair of shoes for every girl," made by Newton Li's political advisor, Stanley Wong. The party is implying that "a nice pair of shoes" is equivalent in value to "a beautiful girl"! What an outrage! Girls are not objects, and neither are girls solely interested in objects, as Wong makes them out to be.

Just a few sentences before, Wong proudly states that Li's campaign is a platform of "promise, love, and hope." Please explain to me how this blatantly insensitive remark towards women promises any kind of love or hope for 51% of the 1835 population.

In short, the campaign letter from candidate Newton Li is a disgrace to the Boba Party. He needs to reevaluate his values and consider the interests of his people. Perhaps his "humble" beginnings in a home of only brothers has blinded his sense of what justice really is.

(2/3/2004) Voters call for resignation of 'Inept' Li for me 2K4 Campaign Manager
In light of the recent comment made by Newton Lis campaign manager Stanley Wong, I have to ask you Mr. Li, do you realize that the incompetence of your campaign manager has cost you far too many votes than you cant afford to lose?

While the statement, there will be a beautiful girl for every guy and a nice pair of shoes for every girl has officially been withdrawn from the Li Campaign, this does not mean that it has been so easily forgotten.

Do these inflammatory and sexist comments stem from Mr. Lis lackey, one Mr. Stanley Wong, or do they stem from the source? Might I add that Stanley Wong tried to bribe me with food and then physically assaulted me after a failed attempt to receive my endorsement. Allegations that Mr. Lis campaign manager physically assaulted Jaclyn Tan are also being investigated.

I find it ironic that Stanley Wong called Boba candidate hopeful Andrew Kim a subversive, dangerous threat, when he is the one using bribes and physical coercion to intimidate voters into supporting Li.

Will voters vote for a candidate that employs the likes of Stanley Wong? Certainly not.
Newton Li has to come forth and tell his voters that the actions and remarks of his campaign manager do not represent his own character and candidacy.

The only thing that could possibly remedy these recent events is the resignation of Li for me 2K4 campaign manager Stanley Wong.

(2/3/2004) Shin's remarks uncalled for
n reference to Miss Shin's feminist attacks on Li's character, I feel that she herself has much self-evaluating to do.  By her inability to endorse a candidate, this only perpetuates the female stereotypes of women as being politically apathetic and the gatherers of this hunter-dominated society.

Men like beautiful women. Women like beautiful shoes. Its a fact.  I've seen enough Nick and Jessica: Newlyweds to know this.  So if anything, I feel Miss Shin should take a deep look inside to see what this issues are all about, and then take a deep look into her shoe rack and see where she has gone wrong.  Li is a shoe-in and you know it. Its time to make a choice.

(2/3/2004) Daily 1835 design is ugly
I think you need to improve the layout of the daily 1835. the colors are ugly, and i am dismayed in the drop in quality ever since the resurrection of what was once a fine example of a randomly updated online newspaper about the happenings of 1835 Hinman.

(2/4/2004)The Truth Comes out: One person cant make a difference

PaEk YoUnG (12:59:14 AM): its my right to voice my opinion
Buddyboy64 (12:59:50 AM): one person cant make a difference
PaEk YoUnG (1:00:03 AM): i see how it is
Buddyboy64 (1:00:10 AM): hahaha
Buddyboy64 (1:00:13 AM): good

On a recent instant message conversation with Boba party candidate Newton Li, it became clear that Li does not care about the voters. He said on February 4 that one person cant make a difference.

I have a problem when a candidate thinks that he is too good to listen to his constituents opinions. While I may just be one person that cant make a difference, I can guarantee that the voters will not stand for Lis irresponsibility and this comment will affect the results of the February 9 Primary.

While the glitz and glamour of the Li4Me2K4 Campaign has enthralled voters with its high tech advertisements and its cheesy articles by his campaign manager Stanley Wong, behind the faade lies an uncaring and corrupt politician.

The Li4Me2K4 Campaign will crumble just like the statue in the book of Daniel.
The head of the statue was made of pure gold, its chest and arms of silver, its belly and thighs of bronze, 33 its legs of iron, its feet partly of iron and partly of baked clay (Daniel 2:32-33). While in appearance the statue looked stable, one small blow and everything collapsed.

(2/4/2004)Li is dense, not credible, and watches bad TV programming
Newton Li should deeply regret his inconsiderate and, frankly, incomprehensible comments once more. First, "Nick and Jessica: Newlyweds" a credible source of political information? Most certainly not!! Did he not watch MTV's indecent exposure during the Super Bowl half-time show? Once again, we see a prime example of the disgusting objectification of women. Li should check his sources more carefully (if at all).

And second, Li does not have any right to attack my political stance in this election. What stance I choose to take is my personal freedom. Moreover, I protested earlier against the objectification of women, not their political behavior. Also, can anyone blame me for my refusal to support either of two such inept candidates?

(2/4/2004) Ethridge in 2004, all are welcome to my doorbell-less house
Taking advantage of this public forum, I would like to quote a certain Lilian Shin, in regards to my apartment after a recent housewarming brunch visit.

"That place is kickin'!!!"
                -  Lilian Shin

Is it "kickin'" or is it not "kickin'?" You decide. Readers of the Daily 1835 are welcome at 1024 Garnett #1, for pancakes, eggs, muffins, and orange juice at any time, day or night. (Passage into the apartment not guaranteed, as there is no functioning doorbell, and yours
truly usually returns around 2 am.) Further invitations may or may not be extended to host the victory party brunch after the general election.

I also would like to hearby declare my full-fledged support for William Thayer Ethridge in the upcoming general election. Although I am always glad to help out with any campaign, my vote is going to Will, as I believe he will create a community of peace, harmony and cricket.

Moving outside the political arena, what has happened to the Daily's sports updates? Team Cozza and Team Sam seem to have fallen off the face of the planet. My favorite player, Jesus of Nazareth of Team Cozza, is greatly missed - has He been on the injured list or was He traded away? What about Gentle Ben? I used to rely on the Daily as my daily source of news from around the world, but it has recently failed to keep me updated on the news, entertainment, and sports that are important to me. I am disappointed.

P.S. My personal favorite Daily1835 article was 1/31's "Nicholas Collins, look at what has become of your personal life:" which featured this quote from Andy Garland that captured the spirit of the Daily1835:
"What pisses me off the most is that fact that Eugene didn't dance with me," a distraught Andy Garland said. "I mean, what do I have to do to get noticed around here? Wear some bizarre-colored, vertically-striped pants that I bought at some thrift store and didn't wash prior to me putting them on??"

(2/6/2004) This election is stupid, that's why Li should win; Sam Hong is a stupendous genius
As I've watched the events of late unfold by reading the Daily 1835, thousands of people seem to be riveted with this heated election race.  But when I take a step back, I am left with one question: what the hell is this?   Xie has claimed that he wants to be President on his campaign website, but I failed to find the part where the election winner gains such a title.  In the end, this election is a complete farce.  No doubt, everyone has fallen in love with this bizarre circus, but I suppose there's always a phase in life for imaginary friends.

So why are the students so adamant about issues?  Students are backing candidates based on certain political stances and there's a feeling of need for a charismatic winner who "tackles the tough issues," "takes action over rhetoric," and "brings back the Golden Age".  They wave their banner of intellect, socioeconomic status, religion, race, or women's rights, but this is not the place for such a candidate.

That's right: Li is dense, not credible, and watches bad TV programming.  But Li and Wong understand what this election is about.  It's about humor, and they're ten times more biting than Andy Kim.  I like their aggressive and sarcastic style, and on February 16, I would much rather hail Li as winner-of-stupid-bs-election than Kim.  Moreover, this election needs more mudslinging.

On a final note, to the one who has crafted this social uproar, toying with the emotions of many with this stunt a la Wag-the-Dog: you are either one sick bastard or a stupendous genius.  Perhaps both. But please, for the love of God, spell "adamant" and "resuscitate" right before you report on Yao's failure to spell bureau correctly.  You could hurt some feelings.
(editor's note: The Daily 1835 is proud of each and every one of its typos... if we didn't have any typos...we wouldn't be the Daily 1835.  Unlike Yao, we are aware of how to spell 'resuscitate' and 'adamant', we just can't type and are too lazy to proofread. Also, this race IS for president and for a potential $50 DM prize.)

(2/5/2004) Ke Xie is awesome
Although I am not quite sure of Ke Xie's campaign strategies, I think he is hilarious. I couldn't stop laughing when reading his speech, and even though I wonder what the message of his ad is, it still gives me a good feeling. I am honored to be mentioned in the same breath with Ke Xie, as his colleague and hopefully his friend when this election is over. Best of luck with the election, Ke!

Joyce Lee
(2/7) What is up with that stupid ad
I just have five questions for candiate xie: who is the girl in kimono? how does she related to this election? why does she want boba? (does she?) and how does she make me want to vote for you?

Lilian J. Shin
(2/12) Andy Kim's my man
First of all, I am officially endorsing Andy Kim.  Why? Cause during ASB Cleveland last year, amidst all the drama and conflicts that arose from the group, we could always rely on Andy telling one of his bodily function jokes or just talking about food to bring a smile back upon our faces.  If that's not leadership, what is?  And also, Joyce and Will aren't the only diverse ticket in town.  What better running mate for Andy to have than Double A himself, Alan Allmen? Another good,  good man.

Second, I must say that while "reviewing" the candidates, I was deeply offended by one of the key points brought up by Will's running mate, Joyce Lee:
"most of all, i feel that it is odd and unsettling for a candidate who does not know and understand the history of the daily1835 to win this mock election sponsored by the daily1835. to open a webbrowser and type in www.daily1835.cjb.net and then find yourself staring at a picture and headline of some president that you have never ever heard of or met in your life is sad."
I dunno about you, but i smell elitist disfranchisement.  America i suppose was "founded" by WASPs. Does that mean only WASPs should be allowed to elect the ("representative" WASPy) president of the US?  I think not. And, besides, how would one of those candidates "never ever heard of" actually win this campaign if no one has heard of them?  Seems to me that democracy has taken a back seat to the ways of oligarchy.  I've been an avid reader of the 1835 Hinman for months...yet should my vote not count if i support an outsider candidate?  For shame, for shame. Thank you.

(5/22) Co-Editors are against Jews
This letter concerns the article written about the Homewreckers defeat to the Artifacts.  I find the related events concerning my arrival to the game both slanderous and outrageous.  While pointing out the fact that yes, I did pop-out, the Editors failed to mention my double in the 4th inning, which helped to score 2 of our 7 total runs.  More importantly, they failed to mention my huge contribution to the team through my incessant trash-talking towards the Artifacts.  One line (something along the lines of "this guy can't hit for shit") even motivated their star hitter to drive one deep into left field, allowing him to easily trot home.  And you said I contributed to our defeat.  Ha!  Regardless, like my fellow Jews for millenia before me, I have become the scapegoat for Sam Hong and Matt Cozza's shortcomings on the field.  Way to go, racists.  Next time why don't you go have yourselves on ol' fashioned lynching.  Bigots.

John David Gample

p.s.  In addition, I would like to add that I am still upset that my last letter to the editor was not published.  Sam somehow "misplaced" the letter, or "never got around" to putting it up on the site.  My ass.  Just because I brought the new version of the Daily 1835 under criticism, Sam decided that my views shouldn't be put up on the site.  Talk about censorship.  We don't live in North Korea, Sam, so stop trying to pretend like we do.  If this letter is not published, word for word, beware: no one likes an angry Jew.
