(4/12) Artifacts upend rusty Homewreckers
EVANSTON, Ill. __ Coming off a bye week and not having practiced in more than 3 weeks, the Homewreckers looked rusty and underprepared as they lost their last game of the season, 13-7 to the Artifacts (2-2) at Long Field.
The rain was played in heavy rain as players slipped all over the field (mainly just pitcher Vivian Han).
"We just didn't have it out there today," third baseman Dave Gample said. "I guess it didn't help that I came strolling in 35 minutes late with the game more than half over and the team already down by 7 runs. I also popped out -- did I mention that already?"
The Homewreckers (2-2) continued their bad habit of falling behind their opponents early with defensive miscues all over the field, prompting assistant camptain Sam Hong to call his team the "Bad News Bears" even though the 80's movie he was referring to is about football and not baseball.
The highlight of the game came in the 4th inning, when a slow ground ball came between first basemen Andy Ong and pitcher Vivian Han.  Both players just stared at the ball as it rolled between them and the runner reached base.
"I thought that we should have left the ball alone in that situation," Ong said. "Also, I thought we were ahead in the score so we could afford to let a runner on base. Obviously, I was wrong."
In encouraging news, Hong did not strike out, ending his strike out streak at 2 games.
"I'm proud of him," center fielder Matt Cozza said. "But I'm not proud of the fact that I don't understand the rules of softball, yet I'm hitting leadoff for this team."
The Homewreckers are back in action for the playoffs next week.  Time and date is TBA.
Shortstop Sam Hong fouls off a pitch in a game against The Q. He went on to strike out in that at bat.  (VIVIAN HAN)

Homewreckers to take on Woo Shack
EVERYONE: Please wear NAVY BLUE to the game tomorrow
We're all going to miss class, so we'd better win.
Starting pitcher Vivian Han, designated hitter Tiffany Fong, first baseman Andy Ong, shortstop Sam Hong and catcher Tiffany Fong all have LOC 211 on Thursday at 6:30, but will attempt to stay for the entire game as the Homewreckers (2-2) go up against Woo Shack (3-1) today at Long Field at 6 PM.
Everyone else is expected to be at the game with the exception of Joyce Lee, who is busy with film stuff.
Also questionable is leadoff hitter and outfielder Matt Cozza, who might have to miss the game due to a soccer game in Chicago.
"I'm going to have to decide what i want to do," Cozza said. "Play for an Asian IM softball team or play soccer with a bunch of white guys.  I think the first one sounds more appealing."
If Cozza were to play,  this would be the first time this year that the threesome of Birju Shah, Dave Gample and Matt Cozza all started in the same game.
Luck also seems to be on the Homewreckers' side as star outfielder Christine Lee's usual 6-7:20 Language and Prejudce class was cancelled because of professor laziness.
"I think we have a good chance," outfielder and captain Dave Lee said. "I think if the other team doesn't show up, we might have an even better chance."
Vivian Han is slated to make her fourth consecutive start. Han has been pitching well but the defense behind her has failed her many times.
"I'm too lazy to play defense," primadonna outfielder Dave Gample said. "There are too many Asian hunnies on the field."
AAIV's Team Victory will be on the adjacent field taking on the Go-Go Rainbows at the same time.

Willard beats Homewreckers
EVANSTON, Ill. -- For the first time this season, the Homewreckers scored first in a game.  The lead didn't last very long.
Despite jumping to a 2-0 lead, The Homewreckers committed errors and were plagued by defensive confusion as Woo Shack went on their way to a 10-5 win to eliminate the Homewreckers from the postseason.
The game was tainted by unsportsmanlike behavior from certain individuals (girls? maybe guys?) -- first baseman Andy Ong was denied by a player on WooShack when he asked if he could borrow a glove.
Still, the game went on, as the Homewreckers failed to score with the bases loaded and no one out on two separate occasions.  But the Homewreckers have little to be ashamed of.
"I got to embarrass Sam Hong in front of his friends on a weekly basis," Birju Shah said. "That was enough for me."
Joyce Lee brought brownies to the game to try and sweeten up a bittersweet end to the season.
But the Homewreckers take many positives from the up-and-down year.  The highlight of this season was likely the 20-16 come-from-behind victory over the Golden Bananas.
Everyone on the team was named was named co-MVP, as captain Dave Lee was named Coach of the Year.  Sam Hong will now have to go back to talking as if he knows sports for the Daily Northwestern.
Thanks to all Homewreckers for a great season!
