| The end of an era: Gample and Hong share last lecture together |
| EVANSTON, Ill. -- On a warm August afternoon in the Summer of 2001, two men met in a Los Angeles banquet hall. One was a brash, young Jewish boy from Torrance (Loyola High School) while the other was a fresh Asian punk from the San Fernando Valley (Granada Hills High School). The two exchanged a handshake and discovered that they were to live in the same suite in 1835 Hinman, but nothing more was said. A month later, the two met again in the first suite of the second floor short hall of 1835 Hinman and a friendship blossomed. John David "Hardcore" Gample and Daily 1835 co-editor Sam Hong have since had eight classes together and have partaken in endless teasing of various professor and TAs -- all of which came to an end in the final Corporate Finance Theory class of Spring 2004. Gample will be graduating one year early, finishing with a degree in Economics. He will move on to San Francisco, California for a full-time job. Gample and Hong had drifted a bit following freshman year, as Gampel moved into the Delta Upsilon fraternity house, while Hong and Matt Cozza lived together in the same suite of 1835 Hinman for one more year. Gample took fall quarter of junior year to study abroad in Spain, fulfilling his dream to become some quasi-homosexual Spanish desperado. The friendship rekindled as the two had Economics 360 together and played on the Homewreckers softball team together. The two exited Harris 205 this afternoon and hugged, parting ways at the rock. "This is a sad day," the two echoed. "We will take away many memories from the past three years -- very few of them were heterosexual." |
