(2/3)Kim gaining momentum as primary day draws near
EVANSTON, Ill. (AP)__ When Boba Party presidential candidate Newton Li usually hears rumbling, it's his stomach. Recently, though, it has been the momentum of opponent Andy Kim (whose stomach is probably hungering after that free dinner), who seems to be solidifying his status as front-runner. The biggest news story of the day was Andrew Ong, the local stud who initially offered a "tentative" endorsement of Andrew Kim, then apparently formally endorsed Li. Today, Ong clairfied that he never switched to Li's camp and stood by Kim. Therefore, he never broke the rules concerning switching endorsements. Li's campaign manager was outraged. "He lied," said Stanley Wong. "I plan to have a frank talk to with him." Ong's endorsement of Kim throws off the balance. MEIV has also entered the race, with Sam Yang declaring support for Kim while Brain Kwan sided with Li, completing Li's HPME trifecta. Wong, who campaigned for Li at core, insisted that Kim is "fake" and that he is not really a spiritual and hopeful candidate that believes in hope. He hopes voters will see this by election day. Li also went on the attack on Nick Collins, calling him "Nick the Brick". Kim campaigned at his home of 1835 Hinman. He declared to Li: "I'm coming, you're going and don't let the door hit you on your way out!" A quote stolen from John Kerry. Kim has been stealing lines from "real" politicians all campaign. He has tried to be like John Edwards and stressed his "humble" beginnings. "I grew up in the ghettos of Niles," Kim said. "My opponent has been born a child of privilege. I have been working for these issues all my life. I want to change this country, but I can't do it alone. I need all of you to join me." All of these quotes are word-for-word taken from John Edwards. Kim has challenged Li to a debate before AACM focus on Friday but Li has declined, stating that he would like to take the path of his idol, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and not debate. He instead would like to challenge Kim and his endorsers to a snowball fight. Li was bogged down on Monday due to a cell bio midterm on Tuesday, hampering his ability to campaign. But he promised that he would not give up, a message echoed by his campaign. "After this midterm, Andy is dead," Li said. "It's ok, because half of his endorsements are trash. And Kwan is MEIV worship team LEADER, therefore, he's better than Sam [Yang]." In other news, Lilian Shin has decided to remain officially neutral.
From the Daily 1835 election commision: The Boba Party Primary is now CLOSED. Meaning that the only two candidates that will be allowed on the ballot are Newton Li and Andrew Kim. Recent attempts by Rebecca Tsang/Angela Chung and Ke Xie to jump into the primary have been blocked. Rebecca and Ke can join the General Election that will include the Boba Primary winner and Miller Lite Party candidate Nicholas Collins. But the Boba Primary is strictly between Kim and Li. Ke has already announced that he will jump into the general election as an independent candidate, thereby withdrawing his endorsement of Li. Voting begins February 9. Turnout is expected to be huge, maybe close to 100 votes.
