Daily 1835 All-Stars cruise in 1st round
EVANSTON, Ill. (AP)__ Kara Reinhart scored 2 goals in her first game for the Daily 1835 All Stars and Sam Hong collected a career high 6 goals as the All-Stars rolled over the Resident Aliens, 12-4 Sunday afternoon at Patten Gymnasium. Reinhart scored in the first minute off a screen from the top left corner. Hong scored a minute later off another screen to put the All-Stars quickly ahead, 2-0. Matt Cozza and Jim Joyce each added 2 goals, while Wenny Ng, Erika Warren and Vivian Lee all played stellar defense. The All-Stars, which had been having issues at goalie (i.e. they don't have a goalie) seemed to have found their answer in Adam Sedrowski. The forward did well in his first game in the net, giving up only 4 goals, 2 which came well after the game was decided. "I like goalie because I get to see everyone's butt....especially Sam's," said Sedrowski after the game. "I'd like it if all the guys played defense more so I got closer looks at their nice round behinds." With 2 minutes left, Hong selfishly took a shot from his own back wall and scored, even though everyone else on the floor was open. "No way in Hades I'm passing it to any girls...or Dave Ng, for that matter," he said. The All-Stars are back in action Thursday night against Hot Rod. They will be undermanned and start only 3 guys.

EVANSTON, Ill. (AP)__ The Daily 1835 All-Stars used a four-goal third period to finish off Hot Rod in the second round of the Co-Rec IM Floor Hockey Playoffs. Sam Hong scored four goals, while Matt Cozza added a hat trick as the All-Stars never trailed en route to a 8-3 win Thursday night at Patten Gymnasium. Hong's apparent unwillingness to pass the puck or play anything resembling defense didn't stop him from scoring four goals. Hong has now scored 11 goals in 3 games while Cozza leads the team in playing unselfish and good hockey. The biggest story of the game was the outstanding play of Adam Sedrowski, who was a rock in net. The netminder made a dazzling stop seconds into the contest, setting the tone for an outstanding game. "Without Seedro, we woulda lost this game pretty badly," Sam Hong said. "We're pretty relieved we have a solid goalie now." Will Yoon added a goal and was part of a strong defensive unit that included Sonia Wengerhoff, Vivian Lee, Erika Warren and Wenny Ng Despite having only three guys to rotate into two spots, the All-Stars remained competitive due to Cozza's amazing stamina. The two tired and out-of-shape Asians (who were confused as the same person by the racist white ref) cycled in and out. The All-Stars now have a chance to avenge its only regular season loss in a quarterfinal matchup against the Dazzling Rainbows next Monday.

OAK BROOK, Ill. (AP)__ In front of a room filled with one camerawoman and her pet moose, Daily 1835 co-editor Sam Hong formally announced the five final candidates for National Stud. Regional Stud Andrew Y. Ong, Sexiest Man Alive Ke Xie, Local 'Stacey's Mom' Jung J. Kim, FOB Shrek Kang, and local housewife James M. Cheon were picked as the final five. The press conference took an ugly turn when the moose went rabid and began gnawing at Hong's face. "We got animal control in here to tranquilize the beast," a DoubleTree Hotel spokesperson said. "Unfortunately, they ended up tranquilizing Jerry Ong instead." The winner will be selected by the National Hot n' Sexy Men Selection Committee (NHNSMSC) later this month.

All-Stars knock off No. 1 Dazzling Rainbows
EVANSTON, Ill. __ The Daily 1835 All-Stars catapulted into the semifinals on Monday night, defeating the top-ranked Dazzling Rainbows in a re-match of a regular season game. The All-Stars held off a furious Dazzling Rainbows rally in the final minute and a half to preserve a 6-5 victory. The two teams, who play in the same division, met in the regular season. The Dbows outplayed the All-Stars in every respect on its way to a 11-5 win. "I think those guys came in here thinking they were going to beat us like that again," captain Matt Cozza said. "That worked to our advantage." There were underlying stories to this game. Goalie Adam Sedrowski and forwards Cozza and Sam Hong all play for the Dazzling Rainbows white league floor hockey team that was upset in the Round of 16 on Sunday morning. "I feel for those guys, especially since they've suffered two huge upsets in consecutive days after being picked to reach the finals in both leagues," Hong said. "But I'd be lying if I said there wasn't any extra motivation to beat a team full of people you know and have even played with." The All-Star scored first on a powerplay midway through the first period as Hong went five-hole on goalie Brent Nakamura after the puck had deflected off a defender's stick in front. The Dazzling Rainbows shook the goal off and scored three unanswered, building a 3-1 lead with three minutes to go in the second period. Nakamura stopped Hong and Cozza on several point-blank attempts. Things looked bleak for the Daily 1835 All-Stars. But at the ensuing faceoff, the Dbows turned the puck over immediately off the draw and Hong walked in front of Nakamura and beat him to cut the lead to 3-2. "They were starting to get a bit lazy on defense after the 2-goal lead," Hong said. From then on, the All-Stars went to work. Down 3-2 at the start of the second, Jim Joyce scored a minute in to tie up the game. Midway through the second period, Hong fed Kara Reinhart all alone in the left slot, allowing her to shoot over Nakamura's left shoulder. Joyce then added an insurance goal with 4 minutes left to give the All-Stars a 5-3 lead with under 2 minutes left, which is when the Dazzling Rainbows pulled Nakamura for an extra attacker. Jenny Tison scored right away for the Rainbows cutting the lead to one with a minute left. Sedrowski then made some brilliant saves in net, allowing Hong to pounce on a loose puck and score an empty-netter to push the lead back up to 2 with 40 seconds remaining. The Rainbows struck again with 26 seconds left, scoring on a rebound. But the All-Stars cleared the puck down the length of the floor and held on for the victory. The All-Stars now play Material Science I, nuim.net's pick for co-rec champions in the semifinals on Wednesday night. The game will be at 8:30 at Patten Gymnasium.
