The spare would have been better used at the rear. This can be serious if the rear tires are very thin. With stock suspension, BMW front tires wear on the outside and rear tires wear on the inside. If you wait a long time to rotate, so the wear pattern is set, rotating effectively changes adds positive camber to the front and negative camber to the rear, exactly the wrong direction. This is why BMW recommends against tire rotation. Rotation is OK if you do it frequently.
