There are several features you can customize. One, you can completely turn off the X-band warning. My X-band warning would go off every 1/2 mile driving in Dallas. Grocery stores, 7-11 stores, gas stations, stop lights, you name it, .... would set off the V1. I don't think any metropolitan police departments use old X-band radar guns so all X-band alerts are false warnings. The other feature to look into is the ability to completely silence alerts by pushing the mute button. I tend to have my muted volume fairly high so the ability to totally silence the alert is nice. I have one intersection that always has a K-band alert. I often get stopped at this intersection and have to listen to the alert for 90 seconds or until I turn the V1 off. The mute to silence is perfect for this. It is SO WONDERFUL to finally drive around town in peace and quiet. I think if you live in a large city, you can safely deactivate the X-band alert. I'll reactivate for my trips into rural areas. There might be a few rural police departments still using X-band. Check into it if you wish. http://www.valentine1.com/lab/MikesLabRpt5.asp Lowell Seaton '95 M3 - V1 / enjoying the quiet Dallas, Texas
