The German admonition enclosed says (thanks to Thomas >Salva) that these are "not German DOT approved for street use". Does anyone have >experience with these for street use. Are they acceptable? Jim, Depends on your definition of acceptable. :-) Will they work? Yes. Only 1 stop until they feel like a stock pad would, but the first stop always scares me (when I forget they're on the car). Do you want them for the street? Hell NOOOO!!! They will eat your rotors when cold (big ridges will form), they dust like mad when cold (it'll take only 1 day to coat your wheels with nasty brake dust), and if for some reason you get that brake dust wet, it will stick to your wheels pretty much forever and if you just leave it there it will rust. Some of it might actually get on your paint. They don't rattle or squeal much when used on the street. As a track pad, I refuse to use anything else. PF90 everyone screams! You'll laugh at PF90 equipped cars, Hawk Blues will eat them up for lunch. Once hot, they don't seem to dust as much BTW, very easy to modulate the brakes with these pads. Hope that helps. Carlos Motor City Chapter 91 M3 on R4 race pads for Sunday's autox, Pagids for the street, Hawk Blues for the track. Folks, I've been meaning to post on this for a couple months now. On what is the absolute best street pad I've ever used, and I've tried alot of them. I've never been excited about street pads before, but these are really notable. I needed some street pads for my 95 M3 recently (my 88M3 is only a racecar now, so it doesn't get street pads anymore, but if it did...), and being a fan of Hawk Blues for the track and getting a recommendation for the Hawk HPS I thought I'd give them a try. The HPS are a street pad that IMO would stand up to at least a intermediate student on the track. They grip _almost_ like a warmed up PF90, which suprised the hell out of me. I mean these things grab...when cold. Best of all they don't dust at all. After I installed the HPSes I neglected to wash the wheels on the car (daily driver) for 5.5 weeks, where they were just beginning to show a little dust. In 5.5 weeks, they had about the same amount of dust that 4-5 days of stock pads would produce. And they don't squeal either. So HPS street pad: no dust, quiet and grip almost like a warmed up PF90. If I were to take the 95 M3 to a school for some reason, even though I'm really hard on brakes (still warp a set of rotors a weekend with good ducting on the e30), I would use these pads. Best of all they're cheap too (I can't remember what they cost, but it was noticably less than others). I picked them up James' recommendation at Bimmerworld (link below). Without doubt, this will be my street pad of choice for the forseeable future. And I've tried PFZs, metalmanglers, deluxes, Ferodo street compound, stockers and R4S. Hawk really came through on this one, taking street friction materials to a whole new level. Andrew, really impressed. Most agreed that the Metal Master was a good upgrade over stock but that it was a bit hard on rotors and might not hold up on the track too well. Everyone had good things to say about the Porterfield R4S pad as a great everyday pad that can hold up to autocrossing, so I decided to go with them. People generally agreed that the Euro rotors were overkill, but since I'm in there, might as well do a slight upgrade! Jim passed on some great information on getting the Euro rotors and Porterfield R4S pads for very nice discounts: Euro Rotors $108.00 each: Alexander Imports 800-800-6425 Porterfield R4S Pads $79 front, $66 back, 800-537-6842 with E36M3 Digest Group discount.
