Breath
- Back to Main Page
The ability of breath is a wide one. It incorporates two elements: the type of breath, and the area and range. There are also some unique rules with the breath ability, such as how often a character can use it. Some breath only hits one enemy with devastating effects. Other breath types hit many targets with smaller damage per target. All classes that have a breath ability specify everything that has been mentioned. Some classes are able to concentrate their breath on one target. Others cannot. Here are the details of the breath ability.
Elemental Effect
Breath Types:
Fire
Cold
Thunder
Water
Air
Light
Dark
All of these deal 100% elemental damage of their own type. They deal no physical damage. They are subject to weaknesses and resistances of their element type. Damage ranges are specified in the class description. They are usually consistent in strength with the level of the character. Poison
Sleep
Stun
Petrifying
These breaths do not deal any damage. Instead, they have effects in battle that can cause a lot of problems in enemy lines. Note that petrifying breath is extremely rare. No character classes have been listed as having such an ability.
Area and Range: The range of the breath is specified in the ability of each class that uses breath. For example, if a singular targetting water breath can reach a max of 5 spaces, it would be denoted as: Water - S1[5]. This would be followed by the damage or effect of the breath.
Singular (S1): The breath hits a single target. The target must be visible with no obstacles (including other characters) in the way. Single target breaths are usually quite deadly, especially for high level elemental breaths.

Line-Effect (L): The breath hits everything in its light of path from the character to the target. If it has a range of 6, then every character within 6 spaces of the end target is hit (including allies, as shown in the rules below). Line-Effect breath can only be used horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. The range for diagonal targetting is cut in half and rounded up for odd-distanced breaths.
Surrounding (SD): A good way to use this breath is to first move right into a pack of enemies. When the breath is used, all characters around the character are affected. The range specified in this type of breath is the number of spaces around the character using the breath. If the breath affects diagonals within 1 space distance, it will be specified as [*D]. Otherwise, diagonals count as 2 spaces distant from the character.

Ranged Area (AR): This is the most common area form of breath. The range of the breath is the same as that of the singular type. But when the breath hits the target, it expands to cover an area. This is specified as an X by X area. For the cases of 2x2 and 4x4, the attacker may specify which area around the target is influenced as long as the target remains close to the middle (for the 4x4 case). For 3x3 and 5x5, the target is always at the center. No area effect of breath goes over 5x5.
- A breath cannot be used 2 turns in a row.

- After every second use (2, 4, 6, etc.) of breath in a battle, the character must spend a turn completely idle (not move, attack, or do any action, including defend) if they want to use it again.

- All area effect breaths hit allies as well as enemies. Users of area effect breath are advised to be cautious.
