Time of Troubles: Chap. 4
A day passed and the convoy was halfway to Gariland. Chris had been steadily recovering from the poison; it had gone straight to his blood stream and had stayed there for at least half an hour. He now had a good idea of how it feels when something goes wrong on the battlefield. After he regained consciousness, he heard from Ryan that he had gotten the commander to send out a search party. Chris thanked him for that concern but immediately asked where Leigh was. It turned out that she was sitting right beside the place he lay. She just smiled at him. Chris decided that it would be a good time to smile back.

WellahemIll just leave you to alone, Ryan muttered and left the carriage. The two left inside were still smiling at each other.

Well? Is he okay? Laine asked.

Yeah, hes alright, right? Rosa reinforced.

Yeah, you two can stop worrying now. Both the girls released a breath that they did not know they were holding. The lovebirds are reunited I guess. So, an explanation as to why you followed us would be in order.

The reason is in the infirmary carriage in front of us, Laine responded. Rosa said nothing, as she was busy watching a few birds flying around. She seamed to be a little more in touch with the elements and nature than the rest of them.

I should have seen that coming. Im currently taking bets as to how long theyve been making out now, Ryan said comically.

I dont think theyre making out, Laine responded.

Oh yeah? Prove it.

Okay, I will. With that, Laine started towards the carriage.

If you come out a little pink in the ears, then Ill know I was right.

Laine just stuck her tongue out at Ryan and entered the carriage. What she saw amazed her: the two were just staring at each other smiling. God knows how long theyve been like that. Maybe they got stuck, Laine thought. She left after realizing that neither of them noticed her presence.

Thats weird, she said to Ryan, theyre just sitting there staring at each other.

Huh?

Chris just sat there, looking into her eyes. He saw a slight sparkle and a tear fall down her face. He somehow gathered the strength to pull her close to him. He could feel her heart beat, her broken breath against his neck, she was crying harder than he knew any person could.

I take it youre happy to see me, Chris said jokingly. Leigh just remained there crying. He tried again, Look, Im alright. Hey, cheer updont cry? Umm Nothing seemed to work. Chris put a hand under her chin and raised it up to his face. What happened next was the moment that they had both longed for for years, a kiss, plain and simple. Neither of them wanted the moment to stopso they didnt.

Can you see anything Rosa? Ryan asked as Laine was balancing on his shoulders.

Not quite yet, a little higher. Laine, stop moving around, Rosa complained to the girl whose shoulders she was standing on.
Its Ryans fault!

Hey, I have to hold both of you up and keep pace with the carriage, so shut up, Ryan retorted.

Shushthey might hear us, Rosa reprimanded. Oh my God. AH! Rosa exclaimed as she lost her balance and toppled the tower. The three of them rubbed their soar bottoms and got up a little slowly.

What did you see? Laine asked.

They were kissing! Rosa replied excitedly. Rosa and Laine started jumping around giddily while Ryan just stood where he was brooding.

You two know what this means right? he said while observing their bewildered faces. It means that Chris will be even more distracted on the battlefield knowing that she feels the same way. He will be tormented by not having her around. And dont think about coming with us! In that situation Chris will disregard mission objectives for personal reasons, thus endangering others lives. You do know the predicament this puts me in.

The girls looked at him blankly and turned around to catch up with the convoy, giggling all the way. Ryan just sighed and followed.
