The Limitations of God

I do not wish to blaspheme, but of course this would be blasphemy to believers. That's what some fanatic Christian believers think of free thoughts; that every thought against their god is against them as well. Happy are those who believe and yet keep from the affairs of their god, for they are delusional and think better of their god. They let their god do his work alone, without the assistance of man, for they think a mystical hand would come out of the sky and manipulate society as it saw fit. Also, happy are those who are unwilling to put themselves to service to their god, for they believe they are unworthy and they are blinded by the pleasures of the world. The truth is, they blind themselves, and would shake when their sins are questioned in church! But why do they still believe in god, if they do not believe in themselves? These are the most foolish among believers.

There are vague definitions for "god" and sometimes, people living in the same community have different interpretations of their god. This only tells us that there is not one god, but a multitude; for every person, a personal god that they believe watches over them, and other people as well. However, these gods have a common basis, a template by which all personal Jehovahs are alike. This is the purpose of their Holy Bible. There are also differences in interpretation of some of its texts, but some are similarly interpreted and based on how their religion dogmatically interprets them.

This text I am writing is unbiased in terms of the existence of God or otherwise. Christian believers and Anti-christian skeptics can understand this equally, as long as both keep an open mind. The way I am writing this is based on the notion that if God does exist, then he has the following characteristics mentioned. If he does not, then none of these is his fault. ;)

The Limitations of Creation's Design

What do I mean by limitation of creation's design? When you go out in the streets, you may find people looking alike. Some really look too much alike, that they may be twins separated at birth. But, no, they are just like that because a few physical features are similar. This is limitation of creation's design for if god is all-powerful, how come there are people who look terribly alike? Sure, they are not exactly alike, but then he's still not creative enough to be considered all-powerful. If he is truly powerful, each person's feature would be distinct for him or her, and no other person would look like him or her. This is proof that god is limited, unless he did this on purpose which contradicts the claim that he is all-good because he didn't made his best out of this world (this I take to rank second to the most common skepticism about god's goodness: that if god is all-good, why is there evil in the world that he created?).

If this is natural, godless creation of mankind, there may be a few better explanations. There is no special intelligence, and therefore, everything that can be created is limited to numbers. What I mean by this is that there was followed a certain limited number of figures that can be created, all of which are possible in this material world. For example, their are ten digits in the number system, including zero. If one would write down some numbers that would exceed the number of possible digits, he or she would come up with something like this:

       0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10,

       11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19,

       20, 21, 22, 23...

As we can see, using our existing number system, we tend to repeat digits to produce new numbers. There are just too many possible numbers for the digits. If each digit is a physical feature and each number is a person, a lot of people would "look the same". Our physical features are limited to the existing laws of the natural world. Likewise, if god is obliged to create following rules, then he is not the absolute power in his universe, but someone that is limited to the same physical laws like us.

We could accept that god is limited and that he is not all-good either. That would make him like the gnostic's Demiurge, their so-called creator of this world. But if it is so, then some texts in the bible are false, and that would make the bible refutable in context. Are these accusations the reason why we don't see this god?

Maybe god had certain technological limitations, if there is any sort of technology present in his heaven. What if his creation requires templates, or he used templates to make creation easier for him? It's like silk screen printing. Mass production is his aim in making humans so he just used a bunch of flat panels with die-cut holes, or he used a program with a few designs present to make his man. I'm not serious in this part, so let's move on.

The Special Miracles

We hear about miracles, when someone who's about to die suddenly becomes strong and jumps out of his bed, when someone who got ran over by a gazillion-wheeler truck survives, or when the poor becomes rich by just a phonecall from a rich relative. We've all heard that before and we will all hear it again. Does god make these happen? Does god have to do something to make these happen at all? These are the things that believers call miracles, a sudden twist of events for the better. Sometimes, to inspire believers, they show a reenactment of these events on TV, complete with soft glares of white light and other heart-warming music. But then, if god is all-powerful and all-good (the concept we tried refuting earlier), why would he do good in little ways and not something that actually has effects globally? ("And the headlines: Free Food For Everyone! Poverty Already Eliminated! Global Warming Not A Threat Anymore! God Came Down From Heaven And Touched Each Terrorist's Heart!" You wish.)

It just so happens that we get lucky on our own time. There are things that each of us, as a single person, cannot control, like accidents. Couldn't these be accidents too, but towards a positive direction? Miracles may be real, but reliance on miracles is pathetic. Not everyday does an apple fall to the ground to give you a headstart in life.

God's Ill Will

Why is it that many parts of the bible show god as someone who sends ill will to man? He flooded an entire culture, allowing only a family and some animals sardine-canned in an ark to survive. On Genesis 6:6, it said, "And it repented the Lord that he had made man on earth, and it grieved him at his heart." This is what was written to justify the Great Flood. Does this mean that the all-powerful god had not seen this?

Why did god try to forbid knowledge to Adam and Eve, then damned the entire humanity to death just because they got curious? A god who doesn't allow knowledge is someone who thinks of his whims alone, I think. Speaking of whims, why didn't he accepted Cain's offering? He hates vegetables? And why did he call himself a jealous god? Isn't jealousy a form of pride, since you think you are special or something? This Old Testament god is no better than a gluttonous king! He doesn't seem to be thinking about his actions. And why is he ending the world with a loud bang?

Maybe, if god does exist, he's spanking the early writers of the bible ("Damn you, Moses! How dare you write me as such a god?!") because, I just think, that writing the bible's Pentateuch is no different from writing other legends. It's not really god talking, it's the person "God had inspired to write on his behalf!". Well, it could be that or the person thinks himself as such, but actually accessing his inner thoughts. Well, we may never know.

Apocalypse

Like in Revelations, I will also end this with rocks falling from heaven. God has an equal chance of existing as other mythical gods. It just so happens that there are more convincing statements in the bible that Christianism pushed through. I still cannot tell you whether he actually doesn't exist, all I can tell you is that by every perceptible proof we have about the guy, if he does exist, he's not that much of a god. He's just a "man" with powers.
