Relevant Quotes

Quote 1 - "'I will come to you in the black of some terrible night and I will bring a pointy reckoning that will shudder you . . .. I can make you wish you had never seen the sun go down!'" Act 1, Scene 2
- This quote is relevant because Abigail is talking to Betty, threatening her, not to tell anyone that she saw them drinking the chickens blood.

Quote 2 - "'There are wheels within wheels in this village, and fires within fires!'" Act 1, Scene 4
- This quote is relevant because it means that there are things going on in the inside that you cant see from the outside.

Quote 3 - "'I have trouble enough without I come five mile to hear him preach only hellfire and bloody damnation. Take it to heart, Mr. Parris. There are many others who stay away from church these days because you hardly ever mention God any more.'" Act 1, Scene 4
- This quote is relevant because it talks about how they think that hell is upon the town and they think that their own lives are at stake, because all Parris does is speak of damnation, hell, and the Devil in his sermons.

Quote 4 -  "'They are weighted with authority.'" Act 1, Scene 5
- This is relevant because it gives a little insight into the minds of not only Hale but others in the town as well. They think that the written word, whether it is in books, or written as the law, has such a heavy weight as an authoritative voice in the society. There should be little or no questioning as to the righteousness of the written word.

Quote 5 - "I cannot blink what I saw, Abigail, for my enemies will not blink it. I saw a dress lying on the grass." Act 1, Scene 1
- This is relevant because Parris confronts Abigail and says that he saw a dress laying in the grass and a naked girl dancing in the trees, which Abigail denies ever happening.

Quote 6 - " Abigail, I cannot go before the congregation when I know you have not opened with me. What did you do with her in the forest?" Act 1, Scene 1
- Parris tries to get Abigail to tell him all of what which she did tell him, that happened in the forest with Tituba.

Quote 7 - "No one was naked! You mistake yourself, uncle!" Act 1, Scene 1
- Abigail says that no one was in the forest dancing naked and that Parris was just seeing things, it did not really happen.

Quote 8 - "You did, you did! You drank a charm to kill John Proctor's wife! You drank a charm to kill Goody Proctor! Act 1, Scene 2
- Betty says that she saw Abigail drink that chicken blood in the forest because she wanted to kill John's  wife, Goody Proctor. And Abigail says that Betty better keep her mouth shut and not tell anyone what she saw.

Quote 9 - "Abby, I may think of you softy from time to time. But I will cut off my hand before I'll ever reach for you again. Wipe it out of mind. We never touched, Abby." Act 1, Scene 3
-  Abigail tries to make Proctor to confess his love for her, but he refuses to have any further involvement in their affair. Abby cries desperately over her love for John Proctor, but he still refuses her.

Quote 10 - "I never called him! Tituba, Tituba..." Act 1, Scene 5
- Abigail says that Tituba was one that made her dance and drink the chicken blood and Abigail does not know whats going on and just hears Tituba laughing and singing and tempting her in her dreams.
