My older brother had a trap line about 6 or 7 miles long and it started about 1/4 of a mile from our home. I used to go with him quite often when he would run the trap line. This was back in the early thirties. So one day he asked me if I would run his trap line because he wanted to go somewhere. I agreed because It made me swell way up. I thought that I was pretty important. When the weekend came along, I ask my little brother if he would go with me. I had my 22 rifle and we had our winter clothing on, so we started out and the second trap that we came to had a young bobcat in it. He probably weighed near to 25 lbs. Well.... instead of killing the cat, I decided that we would take him back to the house and make a cage for him so we could keep him. I told my little brother to go back to the house and find a strong box that we could put him in. When he came back he had Mom and Dad's old tin covered suitcase. I opened it away from me and eased up on that cat and clapped it down on him and then had my brother step on the trap to turn the cat loose. Well we had us a bobcat in a suitcase so the rest of the trap line was forgotten for the time being. We started out back home and we had to cross the highway. We got to wondering what would happen if we set the suitcase down beside the highway and let someone find it. Just as luck would have it, some older kids that lived a few miles from us came by in their old chevy car. There were 4 of them in the car and when they saw that suitcase they stopped and backed up and one of them got out and looked both ways and grabbed the suitcase and got back in the car. They started down the highway, and they opened that suitcase! Well needless to say they gave the car to the bobcat. The car went off the road into my dad's field, and they got together and went down to get Dad to bring his team of horses up and set the car up and pull it back up on the highway. Well the first thing Dad spotted was his old suitcase, and he was sure that they had stolen it from the house. We were still hid out in the bushes taking all of this in. Well, Dad wouldn't set the car up, and he made them get in his car and he took them home and told their folks. Well they got the car taken away from them and we never told what really happened for many years because those older kids would have beat us up. I can still see in my mind when they all was jumping out of that car because the bobcat was loose in it.
