Unity Candle
The lighting of the Unity Candle is a visual symbol of two lives joining together as one in the new union of marriage.  In the ceremony there will be three special candles.  The two small candles will be lit by our parents to represent the seperate lives that we have led until this day.  By using these to light the large candle, we will be bringing our lives together to publicly proclaim our love in the new union of marriage.
Catholic Wedding Traditions
Sign of Peace
One of Jesus's last words to his apostles was to grant them peace and to ask them to go in peace.  As a remembrance of this, during Catholic services, the congregation is asked to turn to those seated near them and give them a sign of peace.  This sign usually consists of a handshake or hug and the words "Peace" or "Peace be with you."
