I'm writing an animal fantasy novel featuring the family Canidae. The protagonist is a young dachshund named Oliver, nicknamed Lowdog. He lives with an urban pack of feral dogs (such packs really do exist; more on this later) and has a Siberian Husky guardian named Tangle. She adopted him when his mother, a dog abandoned by her owners who joined the pack, died. Following a bad turn of events and a confrontation with the pack Alpha, Lowdog is forced to flee the pack. After a near-fatal brush with the dogs of a rival pack, Lowdog is swept up into the world of foxes, where he discovers a secret plot that threatens all in the entire city!
A young black-and-tan smooth dachshund, he is the protagonist of the story. He is intelligent, and loyal to both his dog and fox friends.
A red fox (Vulpes vulpes) who saves Lowdog's life. She is clever, courageous, and kind, not to mention fiercely opinionated!
Trinsanor's friend. As sparkling and bubbly as a flute of champagne, she is also intelligent and learned. She spent ten years studying Foxlore (not fox mythology, but something else...can't tell you, you've got to read it for yourself!)
Another friend of Trinsanor's. Unlike Trinsanor and Jipa, she is a silver fox (Vulpes fulvus). She used to be a Guard at the fox haven in the city. (Again, you gotta read it...)
Lowdog's guardian, a white-furred, blue-eyed Siberian Husky. Sometimes she's kind, but sometimes she can lose her temper. She's been through a lot; first she adopted Lowdog when he was a puppy and his mother died; then her mate Lucet died and she had to do twice as much foraging.
