| Youth Leaders for Literacy is a committee of the Class of 2006. The goal of this committee is to provide activities and books to children, encouraging a lifelong interest in reading. Access to books is fundamental to reading success: -Increasing access to print material is the most successful way to improve the reading achievement of low-income children. Children who read frequently are better readers and better students: -Fourth-graders who reported reading for fun daily scored higher on the National Assessment of Educational Progress that their peers who reported less frequent reading for fun. (from NEA'S Read Across America) If you would like to help us promote literacy skills and a love of reading you can contact the Youth Leaders for Literacy through Debbie Newman, Jefferson Township High School Counselor, at (973) 697-3535. |
