In Memory of My Teacher
Wang Xuanjie
(1935 - 2000)
As a boy, Wang Xuanjie was a disciple of Monk Yuelang of the Huayan Monastery who taught him not only the Buddhist teachings but also Qigong (breathing exercise skills) and Tui Na (hitting accupoint therapy). Master Wang began his martial arts training as a disciple of He Dequan, an expert in Huaquan as well as spears and cudgels. During this same period, he also learned wrestling from various famous wrestlers in Beijing. Later, he learned Neijiaquan (internal school of shadow boxing) from Yang Demao and Li Yongzong, while at the same time receiving some teachings from Yao Zongxun. Both Yang Demao and Li Yongzong had been experts in Xinyi and Taiji before converting to Dachengquan. Later, Wang studied under the orignial founder of the Dachengquan system, Wang Xiangzhai. In fact, he became the last disciple of the Dachengquan founder. Wang Xiangzhai was so impressed with Wang Xuanjie that he proclaimed "I have so many pupils, but only a few of them are able to carry my cause through to the end. Wang Xuanjie is one of them". Of all of the books that he has published, he is best known for his books "Fighting Techniques of Dachengquan" and "Dacheng Kungfu" (China Prospect Pub. House/Shanghai Book Co., Hong Kong) He also wrote ""Dachengquan" ( Hai Feng Publishing Co., Hong Kong) and "Traditional Chinese Therapeutic Exercises-Standing Pole" (Foreign Languages Press, Beijing) Wang Xuanjie passed away on March 16, 2000 at the age of 65 from a heart attack.
