Wiseman's Ferry27/01/2002

Wuh Hoooooo. . . .  It's a long weekend.  Lets go cruisin'.  OK.  Where?  And thats pretty much how the conversation went for three days prior.  Eventually the destination was narrowed down to either Wollongong or Wisemans Ferry, to be decided by a coin toss on sunday.  After meeting at Parramatta Macca's, we set off about 11am for Wisemans Ferry, the decision based on the fact that [A GTI] had not arrived and it was easier to get him heading north.  After evading the numerous police, and hopefully speed cameras, we proceeded along the Old Northern Road onto Wisemans Ferry Road and eventually into Wisemans Ferry Pub for a couple of drinks, pool and lunch.  This is one destinationn which may well become a regular spot for Club GTi cruises, at least once again with more cars.

After scamming some parking right out front, we proceeded to amuse ourselves and watch as people looked over the GTi's, with even a few bikies showing interest.  It's always amusing to see peoples reactions when they notice one GTi, then realise that they are surrounded by them.  Just goes to show that a group, no matter how small, of identical cars will always attract some attention.  Imagine if we'd had more than four!!!

Inaugral Club GTi BBQ13/01/2002

What better way to spend my birthday, than cruising with 15 GTi's, and of course my loving family.  As fortune would have it, the big family lunch, mainly organised for the cousins 21st, was only 40mins away, which allowed me to cruise, lunch, and cruise again.  Penrith will never be the same after being host to a GTi gathering.  A great day for all.  Check out the photos on the Club GTi website.  Thankyou boys & girls!!

Darling Harbour & Eastern Suburbs06/01/2002

The first for 2002.  Well it was a hot sunny Sunday so nothing better to do with a hangover than go cruising around Sydney's Eastern Suburbs.  It was a last minute decision, organised on friday night.  With that said, five GTi's met behind Darling Harbour, and after waiting for [POP55E] to show, we headed eastwards and cruised through Coogi, Bondi, out to North Head, and finished off in Centenial Park  Hungover, dehydrated and sunburnt, we then all proceeded home!!  Here's a Pic!

Hunter Valley08/12/2001

Nothin' like a big family jaunt in the Hunter Valley to blow away some time.  For a 60th B'day we all headed north and indulged in some of the Hunter's fine wines.  Plus the opportunity for a few nice pic's.  Take a Look!

Small Car Sunday02/12/2001

Yet another early start.  This time 6:15am at Parramatta Macca's.  When will I learn.  Anyway, I took Da Toy out to meet up with a few GTi boys for the Small Car Sunday.  Had the car less than six months and its already attending shows!!!  Turns out that this was also the unvieling of 'Club-GTi'.  A newly formed club for Proton GTi owners, complete with windscreen decals!!  With only five GTi's making an appearance, unfortunately no trophies were received.  Not even an encouragement award for the least amount of preparation for a club display.  So keep a look out for us, and if you're interested drop me an email as we need more cars for next years show, and some ideas to really make an impact.   Email

As I didn't take a camera, you'll just have to check out Club GTi for the run down.

Oran Park25/11/2001

After a late night, followed by an early and slightly numb start to the day, I made my way to The Cross Roads Hotel in Casula. From here about 20 Protons headed off to Oran Park for the final round of the GTP Cup.  With Dave Russell looking good for a Class E win, everyone was preped for a big day.  Things were looking good as we entered Oran Park to our designated spot on the hill directly opposite the pits, giving the crowd a good view of all the GTi's (plus some XLS and M21's).  Even the commentators gave Proton a good plug!!!  Of interest to alot of people was a GTi packed full of stereo, LCD screens and DVD player complete with 'Gone in 60 Seconds' showing.  Not a bad place to waste away a few hours.

Although, all this excitment was short lived (nothing to do with my now sore head).  It's about the third lap of the GTP's first race when Dave lifts a wheel on his GTi causing the ABS to have a spat, forcing him wide on turn one and into the side of a Camry.  Not Happy!!!  This left the GTi stranded under Dunlop bridge with a bustered front right strut.  The commentators start to joke that all the GTi owners better beware as Dave may be looking for a replacement car.  They weren't far from the truth.  With spanner in hand, a demo GTi was pryed open and soon became the doner of a front right strut for Dave's car.  Starting last off the grid in race two, Dave quickly passed half the field (incl. the rival Astra) and was soon chassing the lead group of cars.  However, an impassable Magna slowed his progress, leaving him only one place ahead of the Astra which wasn't enough to give him the Class E win.

Good race Dave.  Hope to see you up there next year!

Proton Drive Day28/10/2001

Sunday 28th October, 2001, saw the running of the inaugural Proton Drive Day.  With about 35 GTi's in attendance, along with a few XLS and M21's, the morning began nice and early at Proton HQ in Silverwater.  After a short chat and quick briefing . . . . "This is not a race . . . Please don't speed . . . Please don't go to McD's drive through!!!"  the cars headed for Epping Road, up to the F3 and onwards to Mt white.  The return trip was a leisurely scenic drive via the Old Pacific Hwy to Galston for a great BBQ lunch provided by the good folk at Proton.
