I was just walking down to Tooting to see a friend
With my best mate, holding a present to send
To my friend, as it were his birthday on the following weekend

We walked round a bend, a group of boys
Turning our path to a dead end
They started pushing and cussing
Next thing I see it’s my friend in the dust
N his head been bustin with a cycle chain,
The anger wells up, and it’s too hard to contain
All I feel is the pain, so I ran in the pouring rain
And cried, Lord please refrain, from letting him take the fast lane
Into the field of heaven, like when my gran died when I were 11
I were praying to the Lord high above, telling him to give my best friend some of his auspicious love

I held his bleeding head in my own two hands, the blood were seeping onto the concrete street in many strands
I could see his eyes just slowly dilating, and in my head all I could feel was the hating
The hospital heart monitor just went at a steady beep; I thought my best mate was just lying fast asleep
Then the beep started to get steady no more, my best friend’s heartbeats were getting very unsure
I saw the surgeon’s gloved hands flying all over the place, and I realised that he had to race
Against time, the sweat poured down his face, cos he were moving at a fast, frantic pace
Machine to ear, heard one long drawn out beep
My heart missed a beat, I was gonna suffer a loss that would cut me deep
Saw the doctor’s close his unforgettable eyes, and draw a sheet over his body, I’ve lost my closest friendship tie
The white sheet slowly turned very damp, with the tears falling from my two bloodshot headlamps

Verse 4
Couple days later, dressed all in black, carrying the coffin towards his final resting place, 1 track
