Catacomb asteroid. It later went thru extensive tesing near the Phobos test facilities and was approved for production. Currently there are sixteen operational ZEUS cannons. They are mounted four each to four seperate orbital defense platforms near the Catacomb asteroid. On average, only one cannon from each platform is in stand-by mode should a conflict arise. If a situation is deemed hostile, the platform commanding officer has authority to bring two ZEUS cannons to full active status. All four cannons may not be used unless higher command is given. This is because four ZEUS cannons, even against a large fleet, would be deemed to be excessive force in the hands of the one platform commander and is therefor against the Covenant's moral judgment. |
