CURRENT PROJECTS FRAG CANNON TECHNOLOGY REPORT Rail technology has recently been revised after Japanese scientist assisted
with what digital gel technology is neccessary. The gel allows rail technology, including guass tubes, to be conducted with 99.5% less energy requirements. However, the gel field strength is weaker to the degree that the round in a guass tube will be against the barrel instead of suspended afloat. Similiar to firearms, this causes significant heat build-up, especially with the high velocity of rail guns. To compenstate, a flush coolant system with external flow tubes follows each round with a blast of compressed coolant. A scope assist gunners. Later models attempted to cool the weapon in a more effective way to allow rounds to be fired quicker. First, the coolant was routed internally to protect the system and also expediate flush effect. Second, rather than continually replacing coolant, this newer version uses an air compressor and refridgeration coolant system to flush the barrel with chilled air. Third, there is a seperate extracting and feeding chamber to allow a feed belt to load ammunition easier. Last, a seperate battery pack (should the weapon lose direct energy feed) has about 2400 hours of life for the relatively (compared to standard rail guns) low maintenance. The currently most advanced rail cannon has several features to an it. An ammo drum, usually mounted by or on the rail gun, can hold a substaintial amount of ammunition. A powerful compresser/coolant system aids in preventing 'hot rounds'. Within a protective case are seven barrels each with a seperate firing tube. This rotation allows time for barrels to cool and thus allows even quicker rates of fire. Aided with and advanced scope package, the rail gun becomes a fully automatic nightmare. The Fully Rail Automatic Gun (FRAG) cannon is scheduled to replace all vulcans on any ACX model unit.
