HELIOTEK HTE-1
Rev 2

Improvements made in this (Rev. 2) version:
Standard features:

One of the greatest new features incorporated into the rev.2 design is the flip up lens cover/diffeuser.
It snaps firmly into place and stays put until you squeeze the sides firmly, causing the spring-loaded lens
to flip up and out of the way with no worries about loosing the diffuser since it's always attached.

When the diffuser/cap is flipped down, it protects the clear lexan lens underneath.
This lens is very useful for close up work and area lighting.  Since the light's deep
reflector already gives plenty of throw, it's nice to have the option of diffused light.
Heliotek has done a great job incorporating this onto the light.  For those that would
rather not have the diffuser, it is completely removeable.

The diffuser works very well at scattering the light so you can use it in close quarters.

Heliotek also offers a tripod mount and pocketpod made of Lexan and ABS that folds up nicely
so you can take it with you.  It works great when you need hands-free lighting.

The HTE-1 comes with 4 Energizer® L91 batteries, break-away lanyard and a case.
It has a removeable and repositionable pocket clip if you don't want to carry it in the case.
The body (battery case) of the light is made of stainless steel and is covered with a soft,
sure grip Santoprene® cover. It can stand on it's tail end for times when you need a hands free "area light".
The HTE-1 is very lightweight and comfortable to hold because of it's narrow stainless steel body that is
covered with Santoprene® TPE that feels like a stiff rubber material that is comfortable in my hands.
The On/Off switch is very unique.  Instead of using a mechanical switch, this light uses a magnetic reed
switch.  The switch area on other flashlights are prone to leak if they are submerged too deep or become
damaged.  But since the HTE-1 switch is sealed in the head, it not only will not leak, but will not activate
by water pressure that increases with depth.  Also, if your on the surface of the water and drop it in, it will float.
The other unique aspect of the switch is it can be set for momentary on/off or constant on/off.  Think of a stick-
shift 4-speed manual transmission.  Slide the switch left and up, and the light is on momentary.  Let the switch
go and it springs down into the off position.  Slide the switch right and up and the light is on constant.
Slide it back and it turns off.

The HTE-1 uses a 1 watt Luxeon Star emitter producing 20 Lumens @ 330mA.
But the most impressive thing about this light is the depth of the (smooth) reflector.  Deep
reflectors are needed when you want the project a very tight beam resulting in plenty of range.
This light has a great amount of "throw" due to it's reflector design, and it shows when you
use it outdoors.  The side spill, while not quite as wide as luxeon LED lights with very short
reflectors, is very bright and useful.  This pays off big when using it at any distance.

The case is well made and has a belt loop (no snap) on the back.  It seems to be very durable.
It fastens by a velcro-type material and has a pouch on the front large enough to carry a spare set
of batteries.  It has been re-designed to accomodate the lens cap/diffuser.

Here is a beamshot comparison at 6'.  The HTE-1 hotspot is much tighter due to the larger
and deeper reflector.  It also produces two distinct secondary beams.
The first is very bright and the outermost beam is about 50% dimmer.
I performed a runtime test with a set of Energizer® L91 batteries and got 7.25 hours at full brightness.
I also tested the HTE-1 in the water and confirmed that it floats and stays dry on the inside.
