OUR CLIENT

Star of the Sea Secondary girls College was founded in 1883 by the Presentation sisters. The schools close proximity to the sea is how the sisters devised the schools name, in recognition of Our Lady Star of the Sea.

Since the schools establishment it has grown under the direction of the presentation sisters in varying disciplines within academic, curricular and extra curricular activities.

At present the College aims to provide an environment which is conducive to high academic achievement, as well as providing an education which is relevant to todays needs. This is achieved through the beliefs of the Presentation sisters.

The IT department for the school currently comprises of two people, Chris Wigney, the head of department and Paul Joseph, the sub head of department. The teaching staff and departments have some input, as well as the principal Rosalie Jones who ultimately has final say in regards to the financial aspect. The technical aspects are left to Chris, and Paul with their given resources with some input from other staff members.

THE OLD SYSTEM

There was no real organised system in keeping information regarding their assets for both hardware and software. Everything was being done manually, with the details of hardware and software of which were required (e.g. the expiry dates of software licenses, PC hardware configurations etc) being written on paper or remembered by Paul or Chris themselves. There was a lot of duplication of information, and it was easy to lose track of the paperwork with it being stored all over the place.

PROBLEMS OF THE OLD SYSTEM
