My Military Career

I started my military career in Jun 86 at Fort Knox, Kentucky. After 9 weeks of basic training I was sent to Fort Sill, Oklahoma for Advanced Individual Training. At the time the 31V school was located there. I was there from Aug 86 to Nov 86, and graduated at the top of my class. I got stationed in the Federal Republic Of Germany on 3 Dec 86, and went through the transfer game. In three Days I went from the 21st Replacement Battalion in Frankfurt to the 3ID replacement Detachment in Wurzburg then finally to 1/7 Infantry in Aschaffenburg. I was assigned as a Radio communications technician in C Company till Aug 87, I was awarded 1 Army Achievement Medal and promoted to PFC, and then transferred to Headquarters Company. I was awarded another Army Achievement medal and I got promoted to specialist and remained there until Feb 88. I was then assigned to A company in a SSG position, two higher than my rank. I was sent before the promotion board and passed, attended PLDC, and awarded my third Army Achievement Medal. I was then Transferred back to Headquarters Company, in Jun 89 and assigned the position of Team Chief, 1 higher than my rank, and laterally promoted to CPL, this was done through Department Of The Army, my commander wanted to make sure it was permanent until I got Promoted again. My Unit was Then deployed to Southwest Asia for Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm and Proven Force, from Dec90 to May91. I was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia), Kuwait Liberation Medal ( Kuwait), And the SWA Service Medal with Three Bronze stars. After returning from SWA my Battalion Communications Chief was transferred to Another Unit and HQ communications Chief was Moved Up to Battalion Communications Chief. I was Subsequently moved Up to HQ Communications Chief, Again 2 higher than My Rank. I was Awarded My Second Army Commendation Medal.

My Unit deactivated in Jun 92 and I was Transferred back to Fort Sill, and Assigned as Communications Chief Of B Battery 1/12 FA(MLRS). Here I learned all I could about wireless communications and data networks. I held the position of communications chief Until Jan 93, when A SSG was Assigned. I worked with him until May 94, when I left the Military. I was awarded My Last Army Commendation Medal.

The reason for my Departure from service was that they were drawing down my MOS. and were not promoting any one to SGT. So with eight years in as a CPL (E-4) I could not reenlist.
