African -American Feminism
I am myself black so i had to talk about that.
Women of color suffer from a double oppression ; first they are women, second they are black. They belong to an oppressed community with all it includes: Discrimination and poverty which brings drugs and alcohol ( a way for white oppressors to keep them passive), violences : there's a real Black Genocide this can be checked by the low life expectancy of the african-american community.
Once again women are the first to sustain this oppression :
Women of color remain at the marge of the society ; statistics have proved that they know the greatest incidents of diagnosed AIDS cases, the highest rate of poverty, the greatest number of sexual abuses, rape and the fatest growing number of incarceration .
As long as black people are oppressed black women will be double oppressed ; by the society because of their color and by their men because of sexism .
As used to say one of the first french socialist feminist Flora Tristan : " Even the most oppressed man can oppressed another human being that is his wife. She is the proletarian's proletarian ".
Black women then appears to be the oppressed's oppressed .
Black women have to be real women warrior to get rid of their double oppression.
But only a socialist society can make them get rid of this oppression since the capitalism needs it to survive in order to set people against each other and not against the capital.
Black women warriors have to struggle for their community improvement as well as for theirs within the community. Women of color have to acquire a consciousness; that is the awareness of their position in the society as well as in which ways this same society destroys them.
Black people have to stay at their places - even more than white women- in this socitety but one can notice some similarities of treatment : Blacks are stereotyped at TV and in movies, they are asked to serve as foils to some white men to give them a " progressive" image .
If white people were not racists then they would recognize that slavery and legal racism obstrusted the development of the black community, therefore they have to be repared for this. The white and black relation will never be square without reparation for centuries of racism. Blacks would always feel cheated by whites.
Women warriors have to struggle for this too.
