Poins is a funny and witty character who plays a minor role in Act of Henry IV Part I . He is always hanging out with Prince Hal so I guess you could call him Prince Hal's goofy sidekick. In Act II a robbery takes place at the inn and Falstaff and his company must fight off the robbers. Well Prince Hal and Poins know how much of a liar Falstaff is. They devise a plan together to set Falstaff up. Poins tells Prince Hal that they will disguise themselves and go up to the inn. They will let the robbers try to rob Falstaff and his company. Prince Hal and Poins will then come out in disguise and rob the robbers. Of course they will be filled with laughter after that because they have just managed to set up Falstaff. Poins has a big problem with Falstaff. They don't get along at all. I think Poins has no respect for Falstaff because of his lying and scathing ways. I also think Poins might feel intimidated by Falstaff or maybe even a sense of jealousy. It seems to me that they are both fighting for the Prince's friendship. Poins feels that if he were to become one of Hal's good friends that people would look up to him and respect him because he is friends with someone of royal blood, I think. Deep down inside I think Poins just wants to be part of something. Although I don't feel it is right for him to put down Falstaff, it was very clever and sneaky of him to devise a plan to set up Falstaff. Lying is a bad habit and Falstaff just got what was coming to him. Poins is somewhat hard to analyze because he has such a minor part. Everything I have said is what my point of view on Poins and his thought and feelings. I think that through everything Poins is an alright guy. |
