Communication One theme I found many times in this play was communication or the lack of. The first obvious is the lack of communication between Hamlet and Ophelia. When Ophelia tells Polonius of her encounter with Hamlet, it is almost as if he desperately wants to tell her something. His body language did some talking but just seemed to make things more confusing. Basically, I feel the lack of communication is what caused an end to Ophelia and Hamlet's relationship. If Ophelia had talked to Hamlet about aboout the problems she had had with her father, maybe he would have been more understanding when she gave back the gifts. Or maybe she would not have had to give back the gifts at all. Due to the fact that Hamlet doesn't tell Ophelia why he is "troubled" she believes the relationship is lacking trust. If he had opened up their trust would have grown and maybe helped them through the tough times. The communication is their when hamlet is reading but their are other times where it is not there. Hamlet insults Polonius with his responses to Polonius's questions. It is a bit humorous that Polonius is depicted as an intelligent man, and he doesn't pick up on the insults. Hamlet wouldn't dare to tell Polonius of the King's secret, he only uses him when he has to. Polonius almost seems to be afraid to talk to Hamlet at certain |
