| First Aid You should all be able to provide first aid treatment for the following conditions: (reference: NLS AWARD Guide S3-31) Respiratory Emergencies -drowning and secondary drowning -obstructed airway -anaphylaxis -pneumothorax and haemothorax -chlorine gas -asthma -hyperventilation -bronchitis -emphysema Circulatory Emergencies -heart attack; full arrest; chronic heart conditions (differentiate angina and mycardial infarction) -shock -major bleeding (internal and external) -minor bleeding Head and Spinal Injuries Medical Emergencies -epilepsy, and other seizures -diabetes -poisoning -anaphylaxis; allergic reactions -stroke Heat and Cold Injuries -hypothermia heat stroke and exhustion Fractures, sprains, and dislocations Burns Injuries to eye, ear, nose and mouth Pressure-related injuries -recognition that underwater activities (skin and scuba diving) offer unique trauma -differentiation between descent (squeex), ascent (embolism) and bottom (decompression) injuries |
