Open simple fracture of the leg
Applying an Anatomical Splint
Position bandages under the legs
-Thread four or five bandages under legs at ankles, at lower legs, and at thighs
-Do not thread bandage at injury site.
Put rolled blanket or pillow between the legs and move unijured leg next to injured leg.
Tie the ends to secure injured limb to unijured limb
-Tie ends of each bandage together with knots on unijured leg
-Check to see that bandages are snug but not too tight
-If more than 1 finger fits under bandages, tighten bandages
-Use a figure-8 bandage to support the foot.
Applying a Blanket Splint - Ankle
Apply the splint
-Leave footwear in place (sock or shoe)
-Thread three bandages: one each at heal, under ankle, and under lower leg.
-Fold or wrap blanket or pillow gently around ankle.
Secure the splint in place
-Secure blanket or pillow around ankle and lower leg
Tie third bandage around foot, from heel to front of ankle.
If more than1 finger fits under bages, tihten bandages.
