| The Scottish Open Volleyball experience is a total package which like the best whiskies, is a blend of competition and fun social activities. The Friday evening starts off the weekend with our ever popular traditional Ceilidh with kilts, bagpipes and fun Scottish dances. It doesn't matter if you don't know any Scottish dances - there are plenty willing to teach you! All the Ceilidh action takes place at Dewars Rinks. Saturday morning sees our computer team swing into action entering the last minute details into the systems which produce the first day's fixtures for the various divisions of competition. Once the fixtures have been produced one copy is posted on the information board in the main arena of the sports centre and another is clipped onto a scoreboard which is collected by the first officiating team on the fixtures' list. This can be collected from the public address caravan between the tarmac pathway and the outdoor courts. Once Saturday's fixtures are complete all the results are correlated with half of the teams qualifying for the competition proper with the other half entering the consolation tournament. Sunday's fixtures are then printed out and they are posted on boards in the entrance foyer of Dewars Rinks which is again the venue for our Saturday evening social event - the Pyrotechnic Disco with banks of magnum sized speakers to fill the air with sound. The Sunday competition is also in the form of mini-leagues with the top teams qualifying for the knock-out stages of the competitions. On completion of the indoor finals, the presentation ceremony takes place on the centre court to round off the weekend's activities. |
