I Love COKE
The COKE Bot
tle For several years,
the COKE bottle has be
en a symbol for "sexine
ss" because of its ve
ry distinct shape.
This bottle, appa
rently, has a cur
vaceous body. S
ince many peop
le have associate
d curves with sexi
ness, it is not surp
rising that many ha
ve used this COKE
bottle as one symbol for
"sexiness". If this COKE
bottle had been human, there
sure is no doubt that it will never
fail to turn heads and invite whistles
from men. Although, the COKE bottle has
evolved to comply with the needs of the consu
mers, the role that this simple bottle has played in the
culture of many consumers and buyers will not be forgo
tten. Isn't it exciting to drink from a bottle, which is shape
d like one of Hollywood's, or rather, the world's sexiest wom
en, who happens to be the ever-famous Marilyn Monroe? Al
so, the bottle, being made out of glass--and I am referring to
the old bottle because some of the bottles now are made
of plastic--can also signify "fragility" as Marilyn Monroe
is sometimes characterized as. I like drinking COKE
from this bottle because it is uniquely shaped and i
t reminds me of how aesthetically beautiful the fe
male body is. I like painting. The Renaissance
paintings usully have nude subjects of female.
Although, they had been usually plump, the b
odies, I mean, they still possessed bodies of
curvaceous nature. Women's bodies symboli
zed life, hence they were depicted as plump. He
ll, during the ancient times, Greek and Roman nob
les ate all the time to make sure the body was well fe
d. Oh yes, and they also threw up the food they ate so
they could come back and gorge on the grapes yet again.
Bulimia wasn't a big deal back then. Don't we wish we had
their confidence now? Andy Warhol provides the perfect exa
mple of commodification using Campbell's soup, Marilyn M
nroe, and now the Coke bottle. However, the innocent-look
ing bottle has hidden evils that I dare not mention, because I
could probably face lawsuits from Coca Cola for dissing the
product that made them Number One when it comes to carbo
nated drinks with at least sixteen tablespoons of sugar per can.
Anyway, since it's only the bottle I should be concerned about
I just want to say--to give COCA COLA the benefit of the do
ubt--that they just shaped their very famous "sexy" bottle this way
in a plain attempt to gain more consumers and hail women's bodies.
