The Workplace in Today

Success is something that everyone wants to achieve but for some people, they never achieve it. This is not always due to the work they do or that they are unable to achieve success, it is due to themselves and their thinking. They cannot be satisfied with what they do and always try to achieve things that are impossible to achieve. If they are making $25,000 a year and their goal is to make over $30,000 once they achieve it they will say to themselves that it isn't enough and change their goal to $40,000 and beat themselves up over only having a $30,000 job. While actually they did achieve their goal and made an accomplishment but they don't see this and just try to make more and be better. This is a good way to achieve things but will eventually lead to burn out and they will not be able to function very well. This will lead them to even more self-hatred and they will try to work themselves harder to achieve their goal instead of taking a break, which is what they need.

Success needs to be identified and goals need to be set, but limitations are needed to be known. Trying to be the best but knowing that only getting half way there is still a great accomplishment is the mindset to be looking for. Reaching a goal should be rewarded before making another goal. Making another goal that is realizable should be set also. A goal that cannot be reached is something that will just end up hurting a person's self-esteem that they aren't good enough and not able to perform their job in the best way.

My definition of success is a person who is content with what he does and what he earns. This, I think, is the most important thing that should happen to have some one able to be successful. Other than that, some other things should be attained also. Having enough income to support themselves and immediate family with enough left over to be able to have some fun and buy some enjoyable things is something that should be had too. Having friendships with co-workers is another thing that would contribute to success.

Other people have different definitions for success in the workplace. One interviewee said that the main thing to measure success on was the amount of money that was made. He said that without money, not too much could be done. Without money, no cool cars or a nice home can be had. That is true, but I think that is only one part of the success achievement that people should be looking for, what good is money if your not happy? There isn't much use for it. Another person defined success as being able to accomplish everything that their job had them do. He went on to say that everything that is needed to be done on the job is important and if someone is able to accomplish all of it, efficiently, that person should be happy with what they had done. He said that it was a real goal to be able to accomplish something and just being at his job and doing his work was rewarding. This is more along the lines that I think success should be measured on. If a person is able to do their job and be happy about it and content, they are successful in what they do.

I don't think the majority of people in the world are successful in their jobs as I define it to be. There are people out there that only want to make money and couldn't care less about how they make or what they have to sacrifice. Also people think that someone is always better than them. They keep on trying to achieve better and better and can't be content with what they have or what they were able to do already in their job. If everyone was to be content, like I define success to be, I do not think that we would be as far ahead in our technology as we are and with those people's sacrifices to make the technology and work so hard without stopping at it. This is why I think that not everyone should be content, because we need some hard, stop at nothing workers that will sacrifice their personal lives to make us a greater world and to bring us full-force into the years to come.
