Playing in a highly unusual role for a Hollywood starlet known almost as well for her matronly Vanity Fair poses, Demi Moore kicks butt in “G.I. Jane,” the action-drama film from Buena Vista Pictures that came out this summer.

In “G.I. Jane,” Moore plays Jordan O'Neil, a young woman who wants to become a Navy SEAL. Trying to help make her dream come true is a lady senator from Texas, Lillian De Haven, played by Anne Bancroft. De Haven has designs on sexually integrating the Navy. The Texas senator is the catalyst for allowing Moore’s character to achieve her goal of becoming a down-and-dirty SEAL. Being surrounded by men doesn’t make her task easy though.

However, the good senator needs votes for re-election. Knowing that having a girl in the elite SEALS outdoing the boys isn’t good for business, the senator and her subordinates backtrack and remove O’Neil, Moore’s character, from the Navy in her final weeks of training.

Many movies today don’t have female action stars and that’s what makes this movie so different and powerful. Moore is, more or less, the muscle of this film, and just because this is an action film, Moore is thought of as a female role model. The plot of this movie is unique because the heroine dominated her male peers. Instead of ruining it, I suggest that you go out and see how Moore fights to overcome this injustice.
