Yui stared at the ceiling, watching the patterns traced by the shadows across its surface. The dark room was silent, save for the hum of the airconditioner and the occasional sound of passing cars. She turned her head, feeling the mattress shift beneath her as the figure beside her stirred. An arm slid around her waist and she felt herself being gently drawn back against a warm body, liking the feeling of bare skin against her back. She felt a warm breath stir the tiny hairs at the back of her neck and she squirmed slightly--it tickled. But the arm around her tightened, and she felt a soft kiss pressed against her neck. She stopped moving and let herself melt back into the embrace. She felt the arm give her a light squeeze before relaxing, draped around her. She listened in the dark, the other person’s breathing even out, as sleep claimed him once again. Then, she let out a small sigh and stared out the window, watching counting the occasional flash of headlights that framed the dark, heavy curtains. It was not until she had counted thirty that she finally extricated herself from the arms that held her and slipped out of bed. Goosebumps immediately formed as the cold air caressed her bare skin. She padded softly across the carpeted floor and picked up her clothes, which had been carelessly discarded by the foot of the bed earlier that evening. She dressed quietly, taking care to make as little sound as possible. When she had finished, she walked over to the window next to a chair and small table, drew the curtains aside, and looked out into the motel parking lot. It was nearly save for two cars. Theirs. She looked back by the bed. A car passed by, flooding the room with light. Yui could see the gold locks peeking out from under the covers. She felt her chest tighten. She sat down by the table and drew out a pen and notepad from her handbag. She stared at it a moment before she started to write. It didn’t even take even five minutes--just a note. Then Yui capped her pen, folded the paper, laid it on the table, and picked up her bag. Then with one final look at the sleeping figure, she walked over to the door, opened it and stepped out. As she closed the door behind her, a draft from the hallway entered the room, and swept the note from the table. It unfolded and slowly fluttered to the floor. It read: Thank you for tonight. I had a wonderful evening. I’m sorry I had to leave like this and I’m sorry I did not tell you my name. Please don’t try to find me. It would be better this way. As Yui slipped into the drivers seat, she rested her forehead against the steering-wheel. Then she straightened up and much to her chagrin, found herself looking back into the building, seeking out a dark window with drawn curtains. When she found it, she bit her lip and shook her head. She pulled the key from the ignition and started to get out of the car, when her eyes caught site of a gift-wrapped box, sitting on the dashboard. It was the gift she had bought for Tetsuya just this afternoon. Tomorrow’s his birthday. Yui pulled the door shut and turned on the ignition. She as she left the parking lot, she did not look back to see the figure standing by the window, watching her drive off.
