I have lived in Honolulu for most of my adult life. When I arrived at the age of 25, I was on a two-month assignment to allow Paul, Sue, and Eric Johnson to move to Honolulu permanently. They didn't, so the Company asked me to stay. It was not an obvious "yes", since I had been told that I would be moving to Mare Island, California, 6 months later. I took the real-pearls-in-the-oyster girl who was working in the lobby of my hotel to dinner and asked her opinion. She said I should go for it. It was also somewhat politically sensitive to not be the third guy in a row to not take Hawaii, although I left the company 28 months later.
